Mark Melancon for Jed Lowrie and Kyle Weiland

Beat me to it. I made another thread shortly after OP. I think this deal has some real upside. Possibly a guy who could be our #4 or 5 in the rotation if we move Wandy or Myers. Also we solved the immediate SS problem in Lowrie who may still have some upside. This keeps Paredes at 3rd, which I like and will keep Angel Sanchez on the bench.

I liked Melancon, but this isn't a bad trade.

This is a good trade simply for the fact that other temas were interested in the players we acquired. This alone is a characteristic unlike any recent Astros deal and is a good sign of the new regime here.

opens up a spot for Jose Iglesias.

So right now its a depth chart like this..

1B - Lee, Wallace, Downs
2B - Altuve, Sanchez
3B - Paredes, Johnson, Downs
SS - Lowrie, Gonzalez (rule 5 pick)
LF - Martinez, Bixler, Lee
CF - Schafer, Bourgeois, Shuck
RF - Bogusevic, Bourgeois, Shuck
C - Castro, Quintero, Tatum

I see one washed up useless player, 7 below average to average MLB players (one who is suspended for drugs), a guy we hope develops power or else is useless, 5 prospects with upside, an injury plagued top draft pick, and two career bench players.

So as far as this season goes.. the hope is small.

Texas and LAA will have a field day with that lineup.

I like the move.

Expecting next season to be good is silly, GM basically said as much in his opening presser. Like this first move, let's see a few more like it and more importantly some SOLID DRAFTS.

Pretty good write-up on the trade.

Great trade, only drawback on Lowrie is he is vey injury prone. Think I read he has a 300+ batting average.

Career .732 OPS for an astros SS is heavenly
