I bet Yu Darvish will be a Ranger now considering what has transpired today.

Not only do they have Pujols, but CJ is their #3 in the rotation behind Weaver and Haren (Santana at 4), who are also locked up for a while.

Some of the aging talent and huge contracts will leave after next year.... sounds like the Angels are set for a deep run.

No move necessary.

Feliz takes the rotation spot.

Darvish would be nice to pursue... we don't need cespedes. We have Engel Beltre and Leonys Martin for CF.

The only worse signing this offseason than Pujols... will be Prince.

Moreland/MYoung/Napoli were sufficient for us in 2011.

We were better than LAAA in 2011, albeit marginally.

Net-
LAAA:
- Add (Net: Pujols/.299/37HR-Trumbo/.254/29HR)
- Add (Net: CJWilson/2.94/1.19 - Pineiro/5.13ERA/1.51WHIP)

That's a huge upgrade at SP.

Texas:
- Minus (Net: CJWilson/2.94/1.19 - Feliz/?/?)

I liked CJWilson, and grew fond of him, realizing his Post-Season wasn't the complete meltdown everyone else projected. I think we'll be fine. I think the 4 SPs we return are still improving, and Feliz has the potential fill the gap in 2012, and replace him in 2013. We also have Neil Ramirez and Martin Perez for 2013.

I'd like to have a formidable and proven Ace to anchor the rotation. It would be nice to get Garza, Gio (We'd have to use Toronto as a proxy), Oswalt or other... but I think there are plenty of Type A SPs who will be available at the deadline, and likely to be a cheaper route.

Well, one thing that's not being tossed out in the differences from last year to this year is injuries. If next year's team follows the law of averages, the Rangers should see a huge uptick just in how many more games they'll get from the core of their lineup.

Rangers will make some trades...some out of left field. Pretty clear based on their offer to CJ they didn't have as much problem with him walking and likely have been planning on it all along.

Wilson will be LAA #3. That's some pretty good depth. The added offense of Pujols and its clear that Texas needs to find a #1-2 type arm for the next 2 years or so if they want to continue there run to the W.S.

No move this season and relying on youth will not be enough, but could set Texas up for a 2013 run if Feliz/Holland/Perez/Ramirez can step up significantly.

Although these moves may appear to put pressure on Texas, I hope they do not, and do not expect J.D. or Nolan to make any 'reactionary moves. I would love a trade for a young ACE...with the money flying around, let's go get King Felix, would love to see him face Pujols in Arlington.

Bringing Kershaw to Texas could set the farm system back 3-4 years...but Texas has a win now mentality...gotta make noise....and not rely on the Angels to pull an Eagles next season.

The Rangers don't have a win now mentality. That's why they didn't overpay for both Pujols and Wilson like the Angels did.

Wait what? After going to back-to-back world series they don't have a "win now mentality"? That makes no sense.

nolan made it clear last year that he wasn't fond of long term/high dollar contracts, which is exactly what it is going to take to get a big name in free agency.....

Well, they need to do something. The hitting is ready now, and if you have to wait for the pitching to come around you may miss your window.

Yu Darvish is a possibility, Rangers have shown interest in the past.

They are rumored to have a bid going in but at the same time are telling everyone they have no interest to throw too much his way....

Buster Olney is saying the Rangers are about to go hard at Fielder and Darvish.

And i think signing Hamilton to a long expensive contract is stupid. Go no more than 4 years. Hes to old and injury prone for crazy numbers
Daveintx
How long do you want to ignore this user?
odd how quiet the Rangers AND the yankees have been thus far.....
Tastybrisket10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would only be comfortable for 2-3 year deal with Fielder but those are rare.
Groosome
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would LOVE Kershaw!!!

Don't read anything into the Ranger's quietness. That is the way they roll these days. No word on anything involving the team and then they pull off a bin move (i.e. Nathan signing)

FWIW, my brother coaches in the Texas League and he said Martin is an incredible CF prospect. Has a chance to be a 40 2b leadoff hitter in the big leagues. I've never heard him rave about a prospect like that before. He's usually pretty guarded in player evaluations. He also said that Frisco had a lefty starter that could crack the MLB rotation in 2012 or 2013 and be very effective.

Well... when you say had... did you mean he was there last year and may or may not start there in 2012... or did you mean, he pitched in Frisco for a period of time, but moved on?!

The only player that pitched in Frisco that was Lefty and likely to make an impact in the rotation... that'd be Martin Perez.

2012 - Martin Perez was considered the 2nd best LHP in the minors... behind Matt Moore of TB.

He'll likely make an impact in 2013. I think the Rangers will be slow to bring him in in 2012, to keep from losing a year.
Swabbie02

Well the Rangers need another starter but CJ was not the ace of the staff this past year. The Rangers need to add Prince and maybe shields and they go back in front.
Bobaloo

It is Perez.

Cool. Then your brother knows what he is talking about.

If you haven't tracked with Martin Perez... now would be a good time to learn. Feeling on this board are mixed about how good he'll be, but the consensus is he'll be a solid rotation guy.

At 17, he was the youngest pitcher in the Northwest League since Felix Hernandez. Normally a league for recent college drafted players. He went 3.65/1.524. Felix was 4 days younger, but did much better.

Like I said, he could make the move to Arlington this season, but think barring significant injuries, he'll spend 2012 in Round Rock (barring a setback), with a callup for an appearance in September.

The tendency would be to rush him, but waiting another year will allow Texas to retain a year of control. Also, since the Rangers have Feliz moving to the rotation, they have Feldman who could move there, and Neil Ramirez (2 years older than Perez) who pitched most of 2011 in Round Rock, and presumably ahead of him...being a team in the Playoff hunt, there isn't a need to rush someone.

My dream scenario....

Angels trade Kendrys Morales to a non-AL West team now that they have Poohole. Before the ink is dry, the Rangers trade Moreland (+ whatever) to said team for Morales. Kendrys comes to Arlington and posts .320/30/100 and goes full blown Napoli on LAAAAAA.... Rangers win the division by 8 games again.

Wouldn't that be sweet?

Should have signed Cliff Lee last year. We'd be talking about repeating as champs in 2012 instead of wondering when Perez can be pushed into the league.

cliff lee was what got Greenberg kicked to the curb.... He was the one that kept trying and trying to spin more $$$$ out there in order to keep Cliff around

They made their move! They allowed Japan's Seibu Lions to sign the ever-so-important Esteban German. That move is going to come back and bite them in the butt, you wait and see!

It still boggles my mind that German got key at-bats in the World Series.

Rangers front office is great, but that has to be one of their biggest blunders ever.

Yeah. I still find my mind going to the WS on occasion thinking about crazy crap like this.
