I could see this really hurting the Angels down the road. They also gave him a no-trade clause (not that it means they can't trade him).

I LOVE THIS SIGNING! Best move the Rangers made this offseason.

They just unnecessarily saddled themselves with a team like the NYYs. Old, aging overpriced players on the decline. With $25M, that will bring their 2012 roster to $128M for 11 players.
Highlights:
Wells - $24.6M (Signed through 2014, less $3M paid by Tor)
Hunter- $18.2M (FA after 2012)
Weaver- $14.2m (Signed through 2016)
Haren - $12.7M (Option in 2013)
Santana- $11.2M
Abreu - $ 9.0M

They have:
OF: Wells (32), Hunter (36), Bourjos (24), Trout (20)
1B: Morales (28), Trumbo (25), Pujols (3X)
DH: Abreu (37)

So, they have some players they'll need to move. Much of their SP becomes FAs after 2012. They'll need to trade 2-3. Fortunately for them, I think Hunter and Abreu are FAs after 2012.

This is going to be fun.

I'd rather the Angels break the bank on him vs. signing 3 quality players.

you dont "HAVE" to do anything. Teams that make moves for the sake of moves usually crash and burn. See the white sox with the peavy and rios trades and the yankees signing kei igawa after dice k was taken by boston

He turns 32 on January 16th. The American league was the only place for him if he signed a 10 year deal.

I am sad he left the Cards yet kind of relieved at the same time. That last 4 or 5 years of his contract would have the potential to be brutal on a NL roster.

and memo to Matt Holliday ---> you better start hitting like a mega-superstar. That Holliday contract (5 years still left) is one major reason why the cards could not give Pujols as much as he wanted
