so... Willson Contreras was called up Thursday and has played all of 1 defensive inning and isn't in the lineup tonight. Obviously he wasn't going to catch Lester and probably not Arrieta, so why even bother calling him up for the pitt series?

I imagine he will start today or tomorrow for sure. They tried to get him an AB the other night but Montero lined into an inning ending DP in the 9th. I think the call up was a reward for the way he'd been playing in the minors. When they bring up a young kid they never start them in the first game. It's usually the second one but with Lester throwing Contreras had to sit again.

that was kinda my point though. he wasn't going to catch Arrieta on Friday and he was never going to catch Lester on Saturday. Leave him in Iowa for a couple extra days to stay in rhythm with ABs... call him up Sunday to start Monday when the rotation dictates that he'll actually play. But clearly Willson Contreras gives zero Fs about my roster management theories.

Cubs lose 3-2. Almora with a bad base running play in the 9th cost the Cubs at least a tie if not the win but I like his aggressiveness. Heyward on the other hand can suck a pair of giant donkey balls.
