Chamberlain goes tonight against Beckett. If the Yankees can win tonight, they will win the series. This is a tough matchup that will give a lot of insight into the Chamberlain experiment; if he can hold his own against Beckett in Fenway, then Yankees fans will feel much better about the future and potential ace.
Rumors swell here in the Hudson Valley about Barry Bonds. I know the Yankees need a bat for Matsui and Posada, but please, for the love of God Steinbrenner...not Bonds. Not an aging, rusty, conceited, entourage having, lying, steroid abuser. I don't think Girardi would stand for much of his shenanigans, but then again, could Stein conceive of a re-make of the Martin-Jackson saga? On a side note (and hopefully related) Matsui has decided to forego surgery and is entering rehab - trying to get back for the September run.
The Yankees are also in the market for a catcher - trying to get Paul Lo Duca from Washington type move. Also, the Freddy Garcia/Jarrod Washburn names keep popping up in the local blogs, but we shall see.
Ian Kennedy pitched a one hitter for Scranton last night. I know Yankees hates him, but he can either be trade bait, or, conceivably, a 4-5 starter again? Depends on what moves Little Stein decides on.
