He said a week ago that he would sit out all back to backs. Philly has 15 back to backs, so that is about 20% of the season.

Guessing the NBA really doesn't like that.

The League proves time and again they let players do whatever they want. Look at Harden, Kawhi, Ben Simmons, etc.

This is a nothing burger like the rest of them

NBA investigating Embiid part 2:

I guess the reporter writes for some Philly gossip rag and has brought up Embiids family, including his dead brother, multiple times.

Sounds like a lot going on. If this is a reporter trying to start a fire for attention, I'm with Embiid. Don't talk about his family. That's sicko stuff bru

The reporter didn't say anything disparaging about Embiid's family.

He essentially quoted/paraphrased what Embiid said here: https://www.nba.com/watch/video/embiid-on-the-impact-of-becoming-a-father

And then told Embiid, you are failing because you aren't showing up to do what you said.

He definitely could have done it better, but he was essentially just trying to use Embiid's own words against him, not disparage Embiid's family.

I just tried to look up the article on the Philly Inquirer, but it's behind a paywall.

If anyone has access or if I find someone posted it online, I'll put it up here. That would help me round out an opinion.

Again, I'm going off these piss poor articles being put out by "journalists" today. Just a bunch of Tweets and nonsense jumbled together and thrown online these days, it feels like.

Quote:

Joel Embiid consistently points to the birth of his son, Arthur, as the major inflection point in his basketball career. He often says that he wants to be great to leave a legacy for the boy named after his little brother, who tragically died in an automobile accident when Embiid was in his first year as a 76er.

Well, in order to be great at your job, you first have to show up for work. Embiid has been great at just the opposite. Now in his 11th season, he consistently has been in poor condition. This poor conditioning apparently seems to have delayed his debut this season. Embiid won't play in Wednesday's opener or the next two games.

You think the journalist didn't say anything disparaging about his family just because he didn't explicitly say it? This is gross, dude. The journalist used Embiid's quote about wanting to do good things to honor his family, and then used that to push his personal bias against Embiid.

They have since taken it down and the journalist apologized. It doesn't have to be "Hey you're dead brother thinks you should play" for this to be crossing the line. There was ZERO reason to quote Embiid and then IMMEDIATELY start roasting him in back to back paragraphs.

That's a stylistic choice the write made.

I wouldn't have done what he did, but Embiid has made comments over and over about how he changed his mindset because of these things in his life. It was his choice to make it an issue and make it public in the context of basketball.

That's why a lot of athletes and public figures are wise to keep their private life private. When they choose to make it public, they should expect people to talk about it.

Same thing happens to political figures and no one cries.

Like I said, what the reporter wrote isn't the way I would write it to make the same criticism, but he was using all of Embiid's own statements made in context of basketball to attack Embiid for sitting out games when he isn't injured.

Nevermind. I disagree. Wrote a long response, but it's not worth it.

I think an athlete should be able share these things to inspire others (that's what we expect of them) without shoving it back in their faces in this kind of manner.

I don't care what he is doing, you don't talk about dead people and kids. it's really that simple.

My family lost a child to cancer when I was in HS. If anyone ever tried to tie ANYTHING of mine back to that, my first thought wouldn't be rational either.

you deleted so I will.

I just want to reiterate that I wouldn't have written it the same way. He could have easily made the same valid criticism on Embiid without bringing up his family.

I deleted because I was harsh and didn't want to argue with you.. We disagree lol. It's all good.

For the record, I don't like Embiid much. He cares entirely too much about himself and statistics, and I don't think you win a championship with him, healthy or not. I just REALLY don't like "journalists".

Yep. Had to check off gold medal from his list after stealing Joker's MVP.

Looking forward to him pulling a Durant in a few years and signing with the Celtics or some **** like that to get a ring .

At least Durant had a history of being a baller and playing. Embiid will definitely bail on them, chase rings, expect all the money, and continue to miss games. He's over 30 and 7'1", my guys legs are cooked.

If he gets a ring, he will need some incredible health luck and/or teammates capable of a run without him. He's a fuggin specimen of a human, but he's actually running out of time for real. The talent is undeniable, but you have to play, and you have to play consistently and learn how to get through all types of games.

It's weird to say, but Joel is actually seriously inexperienced. He has so few meaningful games u see his belt. His health is almost becoming 1A with 1B with the talent level around the league catching up to him.
