Spurs did well. They moved up one position and got the 8th pick + Wemby luck for Jakob. It's funny, the spurs were holding onto 3rd worst for almost the entirety of the year. They drop to 5th and 3rd and 4th don't even get a top 4.
Regarding Atlanta, even if they draft the right guy with a #1 pick, they have a lot of decisions to make and have lots of guys under contract. It doesn't necessarily mean it will translate to success in the next 3 years.
Exactly! I don't see anyone in this draft that will make them significantly better and as someone else said, they aren't getting a game changer for Murray.
I think the Spurs are in a good position next year too.
Not only will they not be much better. But also the way they are built this is potentially a disastrous place to be drafted if you're a young teenaged player who needs development.
Sarr getting to run pick and rolls with Trae Young is a waaay better situation than ending up in Washington or Detroit.
Yeah if you want him to be a Clint Capella 2.0 that's fine. Maybe that's his ceiling. I have a feeling he's going to want a bigger role. The guy takes quite a few jumpers even though he came off the bench.
I'm simply commenting on landing in Atlanta vs landing in the complete dumpster fires of the two teams that had the best lottery odds at #1.
You might be right. But we have no evidence that Sarr has any more to him that Wiseman. He was drafted by a great organization and struggled mightily.
Sarr played in a professional league. Wiseman played 3 games of college basketball and they didn't do all the same workouts and everything because of Covid. Completely different - we have a ton more data on Sarr.
He still makes me nervous. Foreign players who weren't major contributors back home just make me nervous. I know he's got a stud in front of him, so they say, but then you have to ask why isn't THAT guy in the NBA? Luka, Senguin, Wemby, etc were all league MVP caliber pros overseas.
Totally get it. Especially because NBL isn't the same as a Real Madrid or something. If we had #1, I take Sarr in a heartbeat and never look back. I think he will be good. Chance to be like JJJ level.
Because it is a professional league, a lot of teams won't give the players a chance to play out like they would in college when the players are younger and less experienced. And really no one in this draft is a stand out.
