Correct me if I'm wrong but I think we only have the Lakers 2nd this year.
We have our own. Top 55 protected. If it was 55-60, Boston got it.

2025, we have our own, Chicago's and New Orleans' 2nds in addition to all the firsts.

In 2026, we could theoretically have six 2nd round picks.

I forget which podcast I was listening to (maybe Lowe Post) and they said the Spurs should just draft big, defensive-minded long wings and sign Tyus Jones to be starting PG and just run the Jones brothers as PG1/PG2. Basically an upgrade of Tre Jones, especially in shooting, and we get to

The Jones Bros will still be picked on defensively since they are smaller, but they won't make many mistakes, will be cheap, easy to acquire. Makes sense to me.

I think it was the athletic NBA podcast. I also found that interesting. It would give the spurs more time to hit in the draft and/or not be trigger happy on an available FA/potential trade.

He certainly seems like the type of player we typically end up getting in free agency.

Then you take Risacher or Williams in the draft and tank one more year for the 25 draft and hope Atlanta implodes and we land two top 4 picks and set everything in motion.

Chet hit that Rookie wall.

Last 12 games:
13.5ppg
8rpg
1.6apg
1.6bpg
0.5spg
.265 3pt

Only two games with more than 20 points, and one with more than 22 points.

Vic rebounding from a rough first couple minutes to post a 12/6/2/2 in the first quarter, still gotta pinch myself sometimes to know it's real this guy is so good

Wemby may get 30 shots tonight.

Wemby should have a triple double tonight if his teammates finish.

This is the Malaki I want to see. If he can just be an offensive spark plug off the bench for us going forward that would be massive.

Champagnie has been impressing me recently. He's good for a couple of wtf moments every game but his defense is coming around and teams are scared of that shot. A 6'8 3&D SG is not the worst thing to have around.

That was a fun game. That was the best effort I've seen in a while. Victor tried to do too much I think but it's important he is tested in those moments.

Spurs has their chances to win but could not connect. No Vassell or sochan who are out for season and keldon out with a stomach virus. Continue to lose and tank. I know the draft isn't the best but if Spurs can get a high draft pick maybe can find someone or use it in a trade.

The FO saw Wemby carry our C team to a near win last night and freaked out about losing our draft spot to Charlotte

Unfortunately, I think we will have to do some extra tanking to get 3rd over Charlotte. And if we tie, it's a coin flip.

Honestly, this draft isn't worth splitting hairs over our draft spot too much.

Only thing is getting Toronto's pick this year. They are currently sitting with the 6th worse record in the league. 4 games ahead of the blazers (who have the 5th worse record). But with draft lottery odds, if the season ended today, there's still a stronger chance the pick conveys to the Spurs (it's top 6 protected).

Two top 10 picks this year would be stellar

I would rather it covert next year than this year.

Same, but I would also rather it convert this year than not at all….which is exactly what will transpire if it does not convert this year. Toronto will embrace the full season tank next year.

This.

Let's get that Toronto pick this summer, let R.C. go old school draft (F you Brian Wright), and let the chips fall where they may.

I don't think Toronto will full season tank at all. That's never been their mo and they have too many pieces in place.

Poeltl
Olynyk
RJ Barrett
Quickley
Bruce Brown
Gradey Dick
Scottie Barnes

Only top two teams get guaranteed top 6 picks and I don't think Toronto is going to compete with Washington and Detroit.

They could have moved OG for picks, but they wanted players instead. If their plan was to tank next year, they would have taken picks

Unless they start next season at or above roughly.500 in the first 20 games, I can see them going partial selloff and full tank very easily. They are young for sure and have some talent, but they can still offload some players for picks and expiring contracts, which they will be more tempted to do after this shallow draft takes place.

One more block and Victor ties Malik Rose for 17th on the All-Time Spurs Block list.

22 more blocks and Victor ties Sean Elliott for 15th on the All-Time Spurs block list. Sean played 10x more games than Wemby for the Spurs.

I watched a good chunk of that Celtics-Thunder game last night and it looked like Chet's legs are pretty tired. In a game where SGA and J-Dub weren't playing, you'd think Chet would pick up more of the slack but he was just another guy out there. Gotta be hard to be the only big man on a team with aspirations, but just made me think that post-ASB Wemby wouldn't have laid an egg in that situation.

Yea as the season has gone on, the gap between Wemby and Chet has grown considerably. Chet is not in the same stratosphere. He's still a great player and has unlocked the Thunder to be a contender but he cannot do the things that Wemby can, especially on defense. I will say though, I think Wemby missing games and the minutes restriction have helped him fight the rookie wall.

The Spurs will have a little money this summer but I think it is most likely that unless a stupid deal for a #2 star can't be passed up, we don't do much. We probably add a veteran on a contract similar to Bruce Brown's Indiana 1y with 1y team option that over pays them, but leaves us with flexibility.

Summer 2024 outlook:

Guaranteed:

Devin: 29.3
Keldon: 19
Zach: 16.71
Wemby: 12.8
Tre: 9.1
Sochan: 5.6
Branham: 3.2
Wesley: 2.6
Cissoko: 1.6
Graham 2.85 (only part guaranteed of his 12.65 contract

Unguaranteed:

Julian 3
Bassey 2.5

Free agents:
Mamu
Barlow
Cedi

---------

That is 108.2M (assuming we keep Julian and Bassey, who are cheap and worth keeping and we cut Graham.)
11 players.
1st round pick Salary: About 12M for 1st pick down to about 6M for 7th pick. Let us call it 9M for 4th pick.
Right now, 30% chance we get Raptors at 7 and 20% chance we get Raptors at 8. I'm going with Raptors winning a top 6 pick, which is 46% likely.

So we have 117.2M for 12 players. Two 2nd round picks, at 1.6M each makes it 120.4M.

That gives us about 20M for our 15th roster spot. Tyus Jones a 20M 1y with 1y team option?

-------

Then in 2025:

Devin: 27M (number goes down for this summer, so easy to assume Spurs are targeting cap space then, which means they aren't planning on doing much this summer)
Collins 18M (last year of deal, should be easy to move if we want, just 12.4% of cap)
Keldon 17.5M (again, decreasing deal from 20 to 19 to 1.75)
Wemby 13.4
Sochan 7
Branham 4.9 (team option)
Wesley 4.7 (team option)
Julian 3 (team option)
Bassey 2.5 (team option)
Cissoko 2.2 (team option)
2024 1st round pick ?M
Tre Jones - free agent

If we made a move to dump Collins, had our 2024 pick at ~9M, and decline everyone else, we are at about 74M on a 155M cap. That is 81M in space, not including the first round picks in 2025 (Spurs, Hawks, Bulls, Raptors, maybe Charlotte). Realistically, that is a max salary plus our core already in place without doing any heavy lifting.
