No chance. The Spurs are going to be so squeaky clean it might get annoying.

And for what it's worth, I'm not a fan of Porter. Removing him from the Rockets actually helps them.

Does the CBA not have a "contract not guaranteed if you are arrested with felony domestic abuse?" They gotta add some sort of for cause in there.

That has to be the case, that guaranteed contracts can be voided by egregious conduct, but the team would have to go through the players' union somehow I assume, and the NBA players' union is pretty strong. Still, if the facts as presented in media reports are accurate, this would be very difficult for even a union to defend.

All that said, I will be surprised if the Rockets can dump him for less than a first round pick, and they may not be willing to give one up. My guess is this ends with the Rockets releasing him.

Stay away from KPJ unless we're a 3rd party facilitator only...that's my gut feeling

Also, Wob brings up some good stuff re: load management. Feel like we'll see a lot of brief check-ins and "stars" being pulled at first stoppage of play in some occasions (SEGABABA anyone?) to try and dodge Silver's directive.

3 Two-Way deals:
Seth Millner
Dominick Barlow
Sir'Jabroni Rice

17 Contracts - have to get down to 15 by opening of the season

Post:

* Zach Collins
* Charles Bassey
* Sandro Mamu
* Khem Birch (will definitely be gone)

Stretch/PF:
* Wemby
* Sochan
* Dougie McBuckets

Big Wing:
* Keldon Johnson
* Cedi Osman
* Julian Champagnie
* Sidy Cissoko

Small wing:
* Devin Vassell
* Reggie Bullock
* Malacki Branham

Point:
* Tre Jones
* Devonte Graham
* Blake Wesley

Obviously there is a lot of overlap, especially with wings and the bigger wings that can play some stretch and guys like Sochan that are more positionless. But a general look.

I think that Birch is cut if not traded and Graham, Bullock, and Doug are the best trade chips that aren't part of our long-term plans. Osman is a soliid filler, but he is considered a great locker room guy and a fan favorite.

We've got a really tough decision on who that last cut is. It's gonna be someone from Cedi/Doug/Bullock/Graham/Mamu/Wesley since Bassey/Champagnie/Cissoko all just inked long term deals. Obviously Wemby, Keldon, Vassell, Sochan, Tre, and Collins are safe.

I don't think we are quite ready to give up on Blake (although I wouldn't be shocked) and I'd be pretty surprised if we cut Doug after he's established himself in the locker room. Graham is our only viable bench ball-handler right now so I think he is also safe.

So you're down to Cedi, Bullock, and Mamu. Mamu I think is the least talented of that group by far, but then you run the risk of a Zach Collins injury (which is not an uncommon occurrence) forcing Wemby to play more minutes at the 5 than you want him to.

Now you're down to Cedi and Bullock. I hope we are able to flip one for some draft capital and a bum because they are both way too good to be cut for nothing.

I think we try to do a 2-for-1 deal somehow.

Bassey's contract is unguaranteed after this year, but if he shows out, it has tremendous value.

I think we want Mamu for the depth, but against most teams, I don't think we hesitate to make a post rotation of Sochan/Bassey/Mamu/Barlow if Collins is out.

I also don't think we hesitate to trade out Graham, no matter what we think about Wesley. Just run Tre as PG1 and split secondary playmaker between Wemby, Sochan, and Vassell - maybe even some Cidy Sissoko. We aren't trying to win this year and I think we are planning to use our draft assets to get our PG of the future next year.

Also, I could see us moving 2-3 guys in a potential Miami Heat trade where we bring back Kyle Lowry. Doug+Graham = 26mm out, which works for bringing back Lowry's 29.6 (this is his last season.)

Graham and Osman have essentially the same salary cap number as Fournier, but I would rather have Graham and Osman.

In any event, I think Birch gets a medical retirement or gets cut and we do some sort of 2-for-1 deal.

I think the Spurs would trade anyone but Wemby. But most likely out (in my perceived order) are:

* Birch
* Doug
* Graham
* Bullock
* Osman
* Wesley
* Mamu
* ChampagniePapi
* Bassey

As for PG next year:

Free agents:

Stop Gap:
Mike Conley
Kyle Lowry

Starter:
Jrue Holliday (ETO)
Dinwiddie
Fultz

RFA:
Immanuel Quickley
Cole Anthony
Payton Prichard

If we want another backup to go with Tre Jones:
Tyus Jones

Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full:
Tyrese Maxey (just a bad fit, no defense)
James Harden
Russell Westbrook

---------------

Draft:
Spurs 1st (no outstanding trades on it)
Charlotte 1st (if 15-30)
Toronto 1st (if 7-30)

I think it is feasible we end up with out pick somewhere between 5-10, the Toronto pick somewhere between 10-20 and the Charlotte pick probably gets pushed, but they could make the play-in if Ball and everyone else stays healthy.

People to watch:
Matas Buzelis: Do we have too many 6'10+ guys that weigh under 200lbs that are scoring ball handlers? I say no. Has good vision and passing and would be a nightmare to guard at SF next to Wemby. May be #1 pick. Plays for GLeague Ignite.

Isaiah Collier. Probably the best pure PG. Would compare best to a Scoot Henderson, but maybe a step down. USC's starting PG.

Tyrese Proctor. Duke PG from down under. 6'5 defensive minded stud.

Also to watch: French Center Alexandre Sarr. He's best known for his defensive ability and instincts as a 7'er.

An ideal draft (even if we didn't get Charlotte's pick) would be landing Collier or Proctor and Sarr.

Supposed to be retro 1968 Hemisfair anniversary somesuch. Just reminds me of early 80s Taco Bell color scheme. Going to one of them taco bells on military drive on the Southside was a Big Deal when I was a kid, for some reason.

Fingers crossed the Raptors don't land Dame.

Edit: Mark Spears just reported that the Raptors are the team with the most heat currently. Gonna be pissed if we get another high 20s pick from Toronto.

Same played 87 games over the last two seasons and hasn't hit 70 games since 2018-2019.

He's 33 now and Toronto will be where he doesn't want to be.

Depends what they give up for him.

I would be pretty stoked if we were the team that is able to get Jrue when Portland inevitably flips him, timeline mismatch be damned that's the exact kind of vet you want on this team

It looks like Portland is trying to trade holiday to a contender. If he was 4 years younger I would say do it. Even if its just for one 1st, $40 million a year for two years is a lot to take on.

Well this is what I get for not being on any kind of social media today, totally missed the Dame trade till now….

Really glad he didn't land in Toronto. Want that pick to be as early as possible. I love Jrue Holliday as a player, but he just doesn't matchup with our timeline. If he was a couple years younger or if we were a couple years farther along in our Wemby and young core development, he'd make a lot of sense.

I'd take him on for expiring contracts + the Charlotte pick, but nothing more.

He's kind of the archetype of what we would want with Wemby, right? He can play on ball and be a primary creator, but can be off-ball and be a D&3 guy. All-Defense, starting PG for NBA champion, great shooter, beloved teammate everywhere. 36mm this year and 40mm next year, if he opts in, but he also might not since he could try to go sign somewhere.

It's going to suck to see Primo thrive with the Lakers. He's talented and I had high hopes for him. The silver lining is if he was here last season we probably don't get Wemby.

Clippers. And he shot .372/.304 for his career, we might have had better odds if he wasn't a knucklehead.

Primo was still a major work in progress, which is why we were trying to turn him into a pg. he showed some play making and shooting flashes, but never anything that indicated he was going to be a regular contributor.
