lol not even close. Powell is a decent backup C and a great 3rd string C. Hes a consummate pro and functions on this offense. Morris is out of shape, 0 lateral mobility, and doesn't do anything this mavs team relies from the C position.
I think we found the last remaining dwight powell fan. the dude is comedically bad. he missed 2 point blank layups...at 6'11". he has stones for hands.
if Morris is out of shape, that's on the coaches. If you're on the active playoff roster, you have to be ready to be plugged in, even the last dude on the bench. His highest value might be a sidelines cheerleader and veteran voice, but who knows. I just know I have a hard time believing morris minutes are worse than DP minutes.
I equate it to that game where we brought in Javale McGee after months of bench-riding and dude scored a quick 10 with 5 rebs and a couple of blocks in 10 quick mins. I still just fail to see how it could be worse than DP.
I'm not a fan, Im just bucking at the absurdity of playing the out shape, 14th man. Y'all are doing the classic "backup QB"/how bad could he be?" trope. Morris is legit the worst player on this roster.
Lol and how is it on the coaching staff that a 12 yr vet can't stay in shape? Like you accuse me of being a Powell fan but you sound like a Morris relative.
Like I'm sorry but Powell actually has some vertical spacing and can functionally operate in a switch defense. Can he crash the boards and bang with Gobert? No, of course not. But Morris takes far more than he gives and is only on the team because of his representation.
You don't have to be in shape to play a few minutes here and there. I'm also saying it's just something that could be a different look. It could pull Rudy away from the basket. He could handle the ball better and maybe shoot from the short roll.
We are in a rough spot because we are having to have a Morris v Powell debate. We just have to find ways to steal the non-Gafford minutes. Which is already rough because we were trying to steal the Gafford, non-Lively minutes before.
Powell was a -1 in 7 minutes of game 3 despite the misses. Mavs have a far greater likelihood of surviving with him on the court than Morris.
Everything negative there is to stay about Powell is true, but a lot of it is from the mindset from when we were starting him and playing him heavy minutes.
Hes about the best you can expect from your 3rd string Center you rarely, if ever, play.
Hes athletic, understands the offense and defense, adn will always play hard.
There is a reason Morris hasn't played much this season.
I also dont think its ridiculous to want to at least run him out for 3-4 minutes and see, and I actually thought we might see him in the game 3 after the injury.
I just don't see playing Powell in the specific scenario we are in as a mistake by Kidd. I've also long been a Powell hater, if you can even call it hating to not like seeing him get minutes for my team, lol.
