This is great news

Everybody get out to a Landry's restaurant or vacation to a Golden Nugget and support the Rockets

Referencing the above post... are you D'Antoni??

Bleacher report saying Paul George is high on the rockets list. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm not crazy about him. Perhaps it was playing along the ultimate ball hog stat monster but I just don't think he's as good as everyone else I guess

I'm 100% confident that having a coach like D'Antoni and points like Harden and CP3 would bring out the best in Paul George.

He is desired by the Rockets more than you guys think. My thoughts were shot down by the resident Houston Rockets expert on Sunday.

Paul George is the best three-and-D player in the NBA and would be a perfect fit for the Rockets. He's the reeeally rich man's Eric Gordon.

Didn't realize he was that good of a 3pt shooter. He'd be great in the switch everything defense

He's basically a taller Klay Thompson who can dribble the ball and make passes.

But also turns the ball over more and is more of an iso player.

Would Lebron force a trade to Spurs to play for Pop?

That's usually the case when you can actually dribble the ball. He still averages half the turnovers that LeBron, Russ, and Harden average.

I still think Klay is good enough to create his own shot (despite what people have been posting in this forum). He just doesn't have to, not in that offense. It's the same reason why Durant averages less turnovers as a Warrior than as a member of the Thunder.

Man, I was hopeful all the Spurs fanboy trolls had gone back home, but doesn't look like it.

Nah but you should worry about the "best two way player" who would rather fake an injury and play fortnite than sit on your bench.

I highly doubt we let Capela go. The most reasonable situation to get Lebron to Houston is the same way we got CP3. Lebron opts into his last year, we trade Anderson+Gordon+fillers. Pretty terrible deal for Cleveland though.

Not if they wanna engage tank mode.

While Anderson's contract is bad it's perfect for a team that is tanking and needs to spend money but also have it off the books in 2 years.

He's really more than a 3&D player. Very talented all-around all-star player. Big thing with him is you can play him at 2, 3, or 4. Or if you match up with GSW's lineup with Draymond at C, I don't see why you can't play PG13 at C, too.

My main worry would be how much you have to gut the team to make something like PG or LBJ happen.

Yeah, for sure he's way more than just a specialist. He's a franchise player. But was just saying that if we lose a three-and-D in pursuit of Paul George, he can fill that role and then some.

It's like saying the Rockets needed a solid veteran point guard and then they sign Chris Paul.

For cap purposes:
Harden 30.4
Anderson 20.4
Gordon 13.5
Tucker 8
Nene 3.6
Onuaku 1.5
CP3 (hold) 35.4
Clint (hold) 7
Green (Hold) 1.5
Ariza (hold) 12.9
blank .82
blank .82

Cap 101ish.
That is 135ish.

Waive Ariza's rights
Get CP3 to take 20mm for 1 year
Get a team to take Anderson+Gordon and give you a top 55 protected 2nd rounder back
Now you have seven players:
Capela's rights
Green's rights
Harden
CP3
Tucker
Nene
Onu
+5 cap holds@.82

That's 76mm or about 25mm in cap space.

I think you're missing the big Chinese guy.

I think the Rockets will try to convince Lebron or George to opt into the last year of their deal. Then they can keep basically everyone except Anderson, Gordon, and non-guaranteed fillers. Plus, wouldn't they keep the MLE too?

Big Chinese guy is unguaranteed at 1.4mm. So easy cut for space, unless you don't think you can get 22 points on 6 of 32 shooting and 14 fouls to replace him from anyone else.

I don't think any team wants to pay Anderson $41M over the next 2 years, tanking or not. Especially if that puts them in the luxury tax. Gordon would give them a trade piece to flip though.

Sure, but makes him an ideal trade filler.

Can we roll with...

Harden
Bron
Tucker
Capela

If Bron goes to Philly or LA, Cleveland will likely be a firesale. Love for Ryno would save them millions. $10mm over two years (Love makes 50mm over next 2 years) plus Cleveland gets the repeater tax removed. Cleveland is going to pay about $45mm in luxury tax this summer and I guess they will bargain bin Love, Hill, Thompson to get out of the tax and win the lottery again.

Repeater tax = 2.5x on first five million, 2.75x on next five million, 3,5x on the next five million and 4.5x on the next five million. Cleveland is around 16mm over for 2019 right now.

The most reasonable option is #3, except swap Capela for Gordon. What I'm curious about is how that trade would affect our MLE.
TXAG14
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'd rather keep Gordon over Capela. You can go out and find a center for a good price that will work in our system. Gordon is a 6th man that will be hard to replace.

Disagree completely. If you have Harden/Paul/Bron/Tucker, Gordon isn't nearly as important as Capela and Capela is much harder to replace.

1. Rockets have Bird Rights on Capela, they will only have exceptions for other centers
2. The market for centers is rough. Like Capela is the #2 center behind Boogie, who is a headache. You maybe end up with Nerlens Noel for a year deal on an exception to prove he can play again. The drop off is huge.

Finding a wing that can give you quality minutes off the bench is much easier than finding a starting center than can defend the pick and roll against quick players and rebound.

Spend some time watching other centers in the NBA and you will quickly realize Clint Capela is pretty solid. What he provides on defense is impressive. He also has a fantastic attitude & personality.

Also just about the perfect fit for this offense.
Ryan34

Definitely would rather have Capela, but Gordon definitely has emerged as a nice 2 way player for us. But come on, getting Lebron or Paul George while shedding Anderson's contract is a no-brainer.
