Seems kinda cutthroat to cut a player because of an injury (unless they feel this is career threatening).

Maybe they are still bitter about the shot he hit at Kansas to beat Memphis to win the title

Nobody who follows the league and knows the CBA thinks it was cut throat.

He's an UFA anyway, and he's getting all his money. He wasn't going to be rehabbing in Memphis. With already having 15 guys on the roster, he was the only guy they could waive because the NBA would grant the medical hardship exception until tonights game (added Ray McCallum and Alex Stepheson).

From the 15 man roster (pre waiving of Mario):

PG Mike Conley is out for 3-4 weeks (achilles)
PG Mario Chalmers is out for season
SG Jordan Adams is out indefinitely
PF Zach Randolph out indefinitely
PF Brandon Wright is out for season
C Marc Gasol is out for season
C Birdman is out indefinitely

Tony Allen, Vince Carter, and Matt Barnes have all missed games in the last two weeks.

Grizzlies now have 3 guys on 10-day contracts playing significant minutes.

At one point in tonights game vs Atlanta, when the game was still competitive, Lance Stephenson was the longest tenured Grizzlies player on the floor...at 11 games. Everyone else had been signed after him.

It's why I believe the Rockets could get to 5th place, and I can't believe there aren't more than 4 teams ahead of them in the West.
