He got the job four months ago. If they do fire him, they'll be on their fourth coach in two seasons.

The Kings ladies and gentleman.

I know Karl's being kind of a jerk going around shopping Cousins around without management approval, but the Kings' owner kinda reminds me of the owner of the Charros in Season 2 of "Eastbound and Down" . The Kings are a toy to him.

The Kings should have understood his personality at this point in time,

Rick Adelman was the coach for 7 seasons from 98 to 06 and coached 624 games.

Since then they have had 8 coaches that have coached a total of 722 games.

Cousins is on coach #5.

George Karl once had a roster with Carmelo, Allen Iverson, JR Smith, Kenyon Martin, Marcus Camby, and others. I think it speaks volumes if he is trying to get rid of cousins (if true).

I had the same thought.

Apparently, strong interest to bring in Rajon Rondo.

Maybe they want to pair Cousins and Rondo together in a ploy to drive Karl crazy.

Rondo and the Kings sign a one year deal.

No word on whether Karl has hung himself in the bathroom.

Not to go all Germans, but this happened over a week ago and Cal said no

IF Cal ever goes to the NBA, he will sign with an elite team. Cavs if they get rid of Blatt or Spurs if Pop retires for example. He absolutely will not go to a messed up team like the Kings, 76ers, Lakers or Knicks. Lakers and Knicks would be ideal for Cal if they every get their **** together and sign some high-end stars...but that looks highly unlikely considering the recent trend.

Cal is a fine coach, but he is a great salesmen.
That helps in recruiting to college when he can legitimately sell his past track record with Rose, Evans, Wall, Cousins, Davis, etc.

I don't know how he can do on managing egos and developing players because it is one thing to take a high schooler and develop him over 10 months and prepare him for college, but it is another to develop players and manage egos year after year. If an owner believes Cal can recruit multiple top free agents, I think there will be some disappointment.

The one place I could see him going is somewhere where LeBron has a loaded team, but I think he has it going so well at Kentucky, it is a much better gig.

I agree with the salesman analogy. I don't think he's a very good coach.

I can't even imagine swapping Karl for Calipari. Karl isn't a HOF coach, but he's won 1000 games in the NBA (7th guy in NBA history to hit 1000) and has a total record of 1142-773. He didn't do much in the playoffs in Denver, but he had the misfortune of coaching in the West against Pop and Jackson, and going to war with Carmelo when Dallas had Dirk, SA had Duncan-Manu-Parker, and LA had Kobe-Shaq/Pau. That's 2 HOF coaches and a half dozen HOF players. Simply put, even in his best years, Karl never went to battle in the playoffs with a team that was as good as SA, Dallas, or LA, so it's hard to fault him too much for losing. He went up against HOF coaches and players and lost repeatedly. He can still be a good coach despite that.

Calipari is a coach whose claim to fame is 1) recruit outrageously well, 2) get his roster of 1-and-done players to play cohesively enough to be labeled a team (honestly somewhat impressive given his ridiculous roster turnover), and 3) receive probation a few years later. You never look at Cal and think wow that guy can really coach. You think wow that guy can really recruit + install a bare bones system in a hurry.

Honestly, there's probably not a coach in college basketball whose primary strengths are less important to the NBA game. His biggest advantage by far (recruiting skill) would be almost completely useless.

I think I would put Karl in the same tier with Rick Adelman, Don Nelson, Jerry Sloan, and maybe Mike D'Antoni will be in that list. I think there are all solid coaches who just never won (or will win) a championship.

They had outstanding regular seasons, but not the championship.

Maybe they are the Charles Barkley/Karl Malone of coaches.

Don't insult Jerry Sloan. I hated Utah but he was one hell of a great (not good) coach. The rest of those guys are a tier below him. He would've had 2 titles if not for Jordan and they were contenders in the west every year for over 10 years it seemed.

Why?

Karl can just say some mean things to Rondo and he'll quit the team.

Great point. Those Karl teams in Denver were good but not great. You had slightly past their primes Camby/Martin/Billups (or Iverson) matched with prime Melo and some intriguing bench pieces like J.R. Smith but they were no match for SA/LA. But people also forget that Karl got a Sonics team to the Finals and went up against Jordan's Bulls, and he got a Bucks team to the ECF where the 2nd/3rd best players were Sam Cassell and Glenn Robinson.

Karl is officially gone and the Kings are looking for their 9th coach since 2007 (no that isn't a typo).
