Is Doc gone?

Even after the horrendously beneficial officiating of both the Rockets and Spurs series, the Clippers were not able to win their second round games. They were up 3-1 and had quite an epic collapse against the Rockets who looked like they had completely quit at one point. The Clippers have shown consistently that starting with the head coach, they are not a mentally tough team.

Doubt he is, but he did go into some of the troubles they'll be facing with salary cap and lack of draft picks that will hurt them when they continue to build the team during the press conference.

There is no way he is gone unless he wants to leave.

DeAndre pretty much gone.

Isn't he the GM or something equivalent? I could see that changing.

yes, he's the GM as well. i could see Balmer bringing in a co-GM to help run the cap numbers. but, he's not making wholesale changes this early in ownership.

No way. Sure they imploded, but hey it's the Clippers. They are better now than they have been in decades. They probablt need a GM but I can't see Doc being sacraficed for this.

No way he is gone. They were a historic 1 quarter comeback/collapse away from the Conference Finals.

I also don't think Deandre is gone. They are damn good. I think the best way to approach their off season is to find a GM to help Doc. This new GM's job will be to strengthen the bench. While difficult, I think it is possible.

I believe DeAndre enjoys the LA scene.

How would the collapse be viewed differently if Vinny del Negros was coach?

he does. but, someone is going to give him max money. it will be very hard if not impossible for LA to match.

Jordan's role may not be the only reason the 26-year-old big man is looking to leave Los Angeles. Chris Paul is known for his insanely competitive drive, but that demanding style may be rubbing his teammates the wrong way. Bill Reiter from Fox Sports reports that Paul and Jordan don't always see eye-to-eye.

see eye to eye? the guy has zero post moves and does nothing but jump and catch ball and dunk. Exactly what role does he expect to have?

if he could master a jump hook he'd increase his value immeasurably.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but if he could manage a competent free throw percent he would increase his value immeasurably. He's the most prolific rebounder/defender going and has value on offense for all the second possessions he creates (and you do have to at least keep a body on him during the play), but he gets pulled at crucial times because he's such a liability from the stripe. He'll probably get bailed out by a rule change, but DeAndre shooting two is 25% fewer points per possession than a league-average offense.

Clippers need to blow that team up. They've had 4 years together and not much to show for it. They need to make a big change.

He's a great coach, but they need to revoke his GM privileges post haste. He's a pretty ****ing ****ty GM.

I don't think you're accounting for how much luck has to do with basketball. Not taking anything away from the Rockets, but a bounce or two (that were outside of the control of either team) and the Clips are heading to the Conference Finals.

If you win 55-60 games, you should stay the course and try to bring the team back. They really need a better bench, though. You can't win it all with only 6 legit players and then a couple of scrubs.

Time for Deandre to pay the man.

The most concerning issue for the clippers has to be how griffin turned into a giant vajeen when they needed him most.

I can't think of a team where the main group of guys has been together this long without a championship becoming a championship team. It's just not working out.

Apparently, the Clippers roster wasn't strong enough when he got here...apparently, laughable.

quote:
"I want to fix it, I want to win. That's why I came here. I knew when I came here that roster-wise it was going to be very difficult. The first thing I did before I took this job, I looked at the roster and we laughed. I was like, 'What the (expletive) can we do with this?' It was more the contracts. But we have to try to do it somehow. I don't know how yet, but something will work out."

Looking back the only big misstep Doc had was sitting CP3 in Game 2.

Not a chance. He lost to Houston in 7 games after having his best player miss two games and not be 100% for the series. You don't fire him unless you can get someone better and Doc is still one of the better coaches in the NBA.

Doc the coach is not terrible and won't be fired. Doc the GM is absolutely awful. He has turned that team into a train wreck with his moves. Getting Reddick was a decent move (but involved giving up Bledsoe). Every other move has been a complete failure (Dudley, Hawes, Rivers, etc).

He had his choice between Hawes and Paul Pierce. He chose Hawes.

Am I missing something? He averaged 27/12/5 and shot 55% against the Rockets. Those aren't exactly giant vajeen numbers. Sure he faded some toward the ends of games, but some of that comes from playing two 7 game series and playing tons of minutes in both series. This after a season of playing a lot of minutes (see Rivers' ****ty GM abilities).

Honestly, it's the bench. You could win a title with that starting 5. But when the starters are having to play 40 minutes, and go all-out every single minute that they're on the court (because they know that the bench sucks), they're going to fade toward the end of games.

You simply can't be a GM and a HC in the day and age. That's where the problem starts and ends. As his full-time job, Morey is going to the Sloan Conference, reading player breakdowns, breaking down mountains of sports statistics reports... and meanwhile Doc is running practices, coming up with game plans, and helping to design personal development programs for all of his players. The roster building is stuff he does in his extra time (hint: he doesn't have much).

Just imagine replacing Austin Rivers and Glen Davis with Patty Mills and Boris Diaw. Does anybody want a piece of that team? Those aren't huge, cap-busting roster upgrades, but are very manageable moves for a 7th and 8th guy. The Clippers just need to find them (the problem is of course that finding good role players isn't a piece of cake, which is why you don't put it on your freaking HC).

Doc gutted the bench and should be relieved of his GM duties, but he's a great coach. It would be stupid to fire him as a coach.

Not sure that he's a great coach, or at least not an upgrade over Vinny.
Or Scott Brooks.

I'm not saying those guys are better than Doc, but the greatness of Doc Rivers is overstated, IMO.

So you would be willing to start over with Vinny or Brooks? What have they done in the league?
