A gimpy Tiago is no bueno this series. This team looked too much like the one we saw get destroyed by the pelicans and lose to the Knicks. Also less cojo and more Patty please.

With Tiagos injury it sure would have been nice to have the two seed, instead he was probably rushed back due to the matchup. His injury worries me for the rest of this series.

Well we played bad to start the playoffs last year too and got a lucky game 1 win. Just rest up and we'll get them game 2. We're getting all the cluster**** play out of the way tonight

Ah well. Hopefully they put it all together on Wdnesday and take the ball right into Deandre.

Going to be a real tough series if Blake Griffin and Jamal Crawford stay hot.

Maybe we won't shoot 33% through 3 quarters next game.

Why are they leaving the starters in until the end? Stupid IMO

It appears Doc Rivers is from the Scott Brooks school minutes management. Pop empties the bench and he keeps his starters out there.

Tiagos mental injury was more concerning to me. Physically he looked okay.

I think this series goes 7 games. Gonna be tough to get back to the title series. Spurs have been up and down all year. Lots of injuries.

I've already moved on. No point in getting too high after wins or too low after losses. I just go on media blackouts after losses because I can't stand to listen to the circle jerk.

at least losses don't hurt much anymore as a fan after going through 2013 Finals. I love my Spurs, but in the end it's just a game. And yeah doc rivers is an idiot leaving the starters in

its always the first to win 4 games. I won't even be on the ledge if they lose game 2. The Spurs are a different team at home. All they need to do is win 1 on the road and play well at home.

Hopefully that was our bad game for this series and we got it out of our system. The good news is that we aren't going to continue to shoot that poorly. Green, Diaw, and Parker were really bad offensively tonight and those are guys that we need to play well because they effect our spacing and ball movement the most. We've also gotta be better in translations D, and I suspect Pop will make adjustments there. I don't have any advanced numbers or anything, but off the top of my head our half court D wasn't that bad. It wasn't good, but we forced the clips to beat us going 1 on 1 and it kept us in the game for 3 and a half quarters. In the 4th Crawford and Paul got hot and started making everything and they really pulled away.

I'm not too worried yet. We played poorly against a good team and got beat. We've got till Wednesday to rest up and refocus.

Welp, that was nasty. Clips D was better than I thought it would be.

We'll be better on Wednesday.

Go Spurs.

The post game media guys at the podium are so bad it's hilarious. They sound like a bunch of teenagers in there asking Pop questions.

One thing I've learned about the Spurs is that one game means nothing to the next. We can get destroyed one game an come back and stomp that same team the next.

The only thing I can think of why Pop left starters in and didn't stick with guys like Patty is because he felt we aren't going to win this with Patty. He tried to get Green, Tony, and the guys we HAVE to have in a rhythm and play through the slump. Try and figure the game out as it went on. Green obviously never got in rhythm, but maybe he got all his bad shooting out of his system. You saw Parker start to shoot his way out of the slump too.

The most troubling part of last nights game was the way DJordan changed the game at the rim. Noone could even get our quick release layups to fall because we're so worried about him.

And Kawhi isn't the guy yet. He has got to have a bigger presence then he did last night. Unfortunately he's still not totally fluid with the ball, court vision, and passing. If the Spurs are going to repeat, he's got to have NBA finals like performance each Series. The Clippers did a great job on their on ball screens last night.

Good to know I don't need to watch last night's game on DVR. I'll just save my frustration.

Danny needs to get out of his slump, and Tiago needs to be 90% of the Tiago in March if we are going to pull this out.

The good news is, there's no way we shoot this badly the rest of the series. It was atrocious. 36% is an anomaly, as is 30% from the arc and 53% FTs. We bricked 23 three pointers. If we make even 5 of those, that's a tie game.

We need to go straight at Jordan and get him in foul trouble early. And for God's sake Pop, if Tony isn't on, let Patty play. He is a spark for this offense, and he's proven it time and time again.

Couple thoughts after digesting last nights game:

1. Clippers had a solid game plan defensively. Immediate double on Kawhi as soon as he touches the ball left us a bit out of sorts. In years past, if you were to play us this way then Tony would have had a field day in the paint. No secret they have watched TP this year and realize he just isn't the same player. I expect the Spurs to watch a lot of tape and come up with a counter once Kawhi draws the double team. If you surround Kawhi with shooters in this situation, somebody will get an open look. Just have to make the correct pass.

As far as DJ goes, the Spurs have played against major shot blockers before and there's always an adjustment period. The Spurs will get better at anticipating and adjusting to his presence as the series goes on. He made a huge impact last night but I expect the Spurs to be able to play a little bit better inside now that they are conscious of him.

Saying that, the Spurs were way out of sorts defensively. Very rare do you see the Spurs struggle this much in transition but they were scrambling to find their assignments and players were not picking up the opposition in the open court. This led to way to many open threes. I expect the Spurs to shore this up as well. Spurs might want to look into not cross-matching as much defensively at times. Saying that the Spurs should look at hiding Tony on Barnes more IMO. If the Clippers want to go inside to Barnes to try and exploit that mismatch then I am fine with that. TP could save some energy for offense that way and Green can make it a lot tougher on CP. TP needs to match CP's production offensively.

2. Give LA credit, they hit a lot of 17+ foot jumpers last night. If they continue to shoot like that, it's going to be a tough series. No doubt the Spurs didn't help themselves as they played a very mediocre game defensively.

As we've all said, If Splitter isn't good to go then it's going to be a real tough series inside for us. I guess that calf is more serious then we thought because Tiago is just going to have to play more then 10 minutes or so. Diaw does what he can on Blake but he's just mismatched and Duncan/Baynes are not athletic enough to stay in front of him.

All in all, the Spurs could clearly play a lot better but well see if they are able to put it together. The Clippers showed their hand a lot last night on how they plan on handling some things, especially defensively. I would expect the Spurs to score a lot better/easier from here on out after getting a look at things. If we are able to consistently get stops against the #1 offense in the league will be the deciding factor. Especially with one of our top defenders hobbling.

As many have predicted from the get go, I think we're in for a long series.

This is the most important thing, I think. We have the best coach in basketball, so this game is incredibly valuable as far as tape goes. A lot of things to take away and improve.

A lot of our shooting woes were self inflicted (FTs and wide open 3s), but the Clips defense as well as D Jordan caused a lot of problems there so you have to give them credit. This team, just isn't the same sharp shooting team we saw last year unfortunately. That's why I agree Mills has to get inserted into the #2 PG spot. We desperately need his offense and COJO gives you nothing special. It also would be nice if Diaw starts hitting from outside as a stretch 4 could do wonders on pulling away a Clips big. We might even need some bonner action, but boy will that suck defensively. Of course both Diaw and Mills just aren't shooting this season like they were last, so it might be asking a bit much for them to flip the switch. We have no answer for Griffin if Splitter is hobbled, so we are just going to have to live with him scoring and just hope to score more offensively.

Boy has Parker fallen off the map. I don't know if it's old age, injuries or both, but the first time he drives and scores in the lane in this series will be the 1st time. He is a jump shooting PG right now and that's not good, when you have a shot blocker of Jordan's quality at the rim.

I have faith, that the Spurs will adjust and if nothing else their pride should win a game or two, as they got punched in the mouth and dunked on hard last night and didn't fight back too much. I imagine they will be a bit embarrassed at the way they were pushed around last night. We'll see I guess.

If game 2 goes like this, then we are just outclassed and need to employ a hack a Jordan from start to finish and see if we can just frustrate them. I am talking about fouling Jordan on 40-50 possessions per game. It sounds crazy, but that might be our best bet. We might see some guys like ayers, and bonner fouling out in the 2nd Qtr.

I personally think it was awesome that Baynes went up to contest both of those dunks. I really like him.

But Griffin is a monster.

Defensively there was just no communication and way too much confusion going on. Guys were looking at each other on multiple possessions not knowing who made the mistake. Spurs need to get away from all the switching they are doing and try to play them straight up. We have the defenders. If they hit shots with a hand in their face then so be it but giving up wide open looks and layups because guys are unsure who they should be guarding or when they should be switching is just not going to cut it. Leaves everyone vulnerable to getting dunked on tbh.

Scattershotting:

The Clippers killed us with high screens and double screens. We didn't hedge with the big because the Clippers roll is so dangerous. Unfortunately, Tiago is our best high pick and roll defender, so that will be a tough adjustment to make unless he can fully recover in the next couple days.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Bonner. He's a better defender than he gets credit for and plenty good enough to cover DeAndre one-on-one. He may be quick enough to hedge those screens, and more importantly he'll pull whoever is covering him out of the paint. The Clippers have obviously decided to live with Diaw's three point shooting and it paid off for them, but I doubt they do the same with Bonner. Everyone was too scared of DeAndre in the second half, we need CoJo or Leonard to dunk on him so everyone knows he's not invincible. The ball was moving really well with Tiago in, he just wimped out at the rim against DeAndre and wasn't terribly spry getting to the opposite side of the rim for reverse layups. Hopefully three more days off will help. 1 Bonner/Duncan and 2 Splitter/Diaw might be our best rotations, with Baynes getting fewer minutes. He's a good player but man he got annihilated three times. A little too far behind the play against the Clippers, but at least he's not afraid to throw down.

When TP plays like this, the Spurs are better off with Mills. Mills is a better on-ball defender, he makes Chris Paul work really hard on both ends (and Paul was tired by the end of the game), and he spaces the floor better with his range and extremely quick release... you can recover to Parker's three point shot, but if Patti gets a sliver of daylight the shot is gone (and for the last 3-4 games, everything he throws up goes in). If Parker isn't collapsing the defense, there's not much reason to keep him out there the way he's getting wiped out on screens. Mills even has a little more range on the midrange pullup jumper that was basically Parker's only weapon.

In general though, our offensive problems were basically missing good shots. Danny Green missed at least 5 wide open threes that are normally layups for him. Diaw missed a bunch of open threes that he will knock down about half the time. When they doubled Kawhi, we needed the big to fill the middle; Kawhi was looking for that pass, but our bigs were consistently on the perimeter trying to draw DeAndre out of the paint. Kawhi then had to dribble out which let the defense reset. That's an easy adjustment, but probably something that Pop and Doc adjust back and forth all series.

Transition defense was occasionally good, but for the most part we were collapsing everyone to the paint instead of recognizing that the first wave of defenders had already shut down the middle and we needed to get to the wings. There were several possessions that could have easily turned into turnovers or at least forced the Clippers to pull up and go into a half court set, but the third and fourth players down were collapsing on Griffin who was already looking to pass while a wing set up for a wide open three.

You aint kidden! If you look at Patty and Boris's percentages from last year to this one, its staggering how much they've fallen off. Danny Green has actually slightly improved.

Tony has dramatically improved in the 3pt range, and I wouldn't mind him pulling the trigger more to try and draw out the defender more so he can get by him. The way Tony plays, it allows whoever is defending him to sag off and I think makes it harder for Tony to get by him when he penetrates. It also means that when you set a screen for Tony, its much more difficult to get the rub effect, and makes it easier for the help defender to jump out and redirect him.
Ulrich

If Bonner gets more minutes, Kawhi has to take responsibility for rebounding though.

If I were the Clippers and see that the Spurs have successfully adjusted to doubling Kawhi, I would seriously consider trying Griffin on Kawhi and letting Barnes take on Bonner or injured Splitter. Splitter's post moves might not be fast enough to get good shots with DeAndre lurking.

Tony's getting winded way too quick. Can't expect him to match CPs production offensively if he's having to guard him on the other end. He just isn't the same player this year. Hiding him on Barnes could help. If the Clippers want to throw the ball down into Barnes then let them IMO.

Words can't explain how much I can't stand Barnes. Guy just comes off as a thug.

When he was pumping his chest last night about wrestling Baynes to the ground with the ball... Really dude? What are you celebrating? That you got a jump ball?

If the Spurs can be at 2-2 after 4 games I think they'll be OK. I'm not convinced the Clippers can close out a competitive series.
