So, clearly the coach of the year is going to come down to Kerr vs. Budenholzer. And while I definitely think one of these guys should win (I'd lean towards Budenholzer), there's a third guy that I haven't heard mentioned who should be getting some serious consideration.

Brett Brown for the 76ers should be getting some real consideration. This is not a joke. How the **** does that team have 18 wins? It is absolutely mind boggling to me that they got to 8 wins. Their roster, just based off of names, expectation and experience, is the worst I have ever seen. The fact that this team likely won't finish with the worst record in the league and might even finish ahead of 3 other teams (ahead of 2 at the moment) is a minor miracle. Plus, he's doing this all while ownership is doing all it can to make the roster worse throughout the year (for the most part I agreed with what Hinkie did this season). I know he won't win the award but Brett Brown should deserve some consideration. He's made a team that should have been in the running for worst of all time to just really bad. Hell of a job, coach.

Fortunately for the Sixers, they play in a league & conference where several teams are fine with creating crappy rosters. However, at the end of the season, they will have wins over the Cavs and the Hawks, even if those teams sat players in those games.

I would be fine with either Kerr or Bud winning the COY.

Based on the fact the GSW could win one of the most difficult conferences in recent history by 10 games is good enough reason to give it to Kerr.

Based on the fact that the Hawks were picked by some to not even make the playoffs in the East, and are going to win it by 5+ games is good enough reason to give it to Budenholzer.

Related: ESPN doing their coaches ranking.

So in the overrated column I would put Doc and probably Spoelstra.

Doc is winning games at about the same level as Vinny did his last season.

Spoelstra's Miami team is sub .500, and if they played in the West, they would probably be about where Utah is, and definitely out of the playoffs.

I would probably also put Derek Fisher and Byron Scott in the overrated column, but you actually can't go lower than 29 and 30.

I think I would put Carlisle at #2, not 4.

While I am not big on McHale, he should get a ton fo credit for having a team that is sitting 3rd in the west after Dwight missing most of the season, T Jones missing most of the season, and Bev missing a big chunk too. Now James is the biggest reason for the success in my mind and that is why he should win the MVP, but McHale gets credit by default.

Anything above 28 is too high for Scottie Brooks.

And I think Byron Scott could be a decent coach if LA actually had some players worth a damn.

Derek Fisher should win Coach of the Day honors every time he doesn't kill himself for having to watch the Knicks play.

I think Budenholzer should get it this season.

Kerr also has a great case obviously but he inherited a team with loads of talent already. Not saying Hawks don't have good players but they don't have Steph/Klay.

He can't win it every year, though he's probably one of the best, if not the best, coach in the NBA right now. That doesn't mean he should win it THIS year. Same reason Lebron shouldn't always win MVP - he may be the best, but there are other players more valuable to their teams in my opinion.

In all honesty though, I feel like Kerr or Budenholzer should win it. GSW is playing lights out at a higher level than last season, and Atlanta is getting it done without any one true superstar ala Westbrook/Harden/Lebron. I think what Houston has been able to do is impressive, but I don't put that on the coach, I put that on James Harden.

My problem with coach of the year is that it's never the best coach that year, it's just the coach that over achieved after media members rated their team low in preseason.

Avery Johnson won, not coaching.

D'Antoni, same.

Mike Brown, Scott Brooks? GTFO

George Karl won and then was fired.

Anyone think Byron Scott is a coach of the year?

Thibodeau was a good one though the team has lost more games each year after his win. He can't get over the hump without Rose.

Carlisle and Pop deserve theirs and maybe the former should have at least 1 more win.

I've obviously skipped a lot of winners in the last 15 years but of these guys here you'd only take Carlisle, Pop and Thibodeau, maybe Karl depending on what we see in SAC.

Phil won once after coaching 3 3 peats and a back to back. Once in 11 championships.

Pop should win it. Look at what he has had to deal with in terms of injuries, yet you barely even notice a drop in the team's performance and record. It's truly amazing.

Houston had just as many key injuries, so you can argue the same thing for McHale. But the bottom line is nobody was going to get more votes than Bud or Kerr

No I know he got 6th. I was just responding to the statement that Pop should win because of the injuries they have dealt with.

The injuries Houston & OKC dealth with >>> any other theams injuries and its not even close.

We lost one of our big 2 for most of the year. We lost our starting PG for big chunks. We lost our starting PF for most of the year. We lost his back up / best player off the bench for the end of the season. And we lost different guys off the bench multiple times this year.

Are you talking about Houston or San Antonio, because that description works for both teams.

I can't find an updated metric but as of 3/29 Houston had 98 game smissed by starters. SAS had 39. I think its pretty damn clear who I'm talking about.

We were missing a lot of our players a lot of the season, but mostly we just couldn't get our heads out of our asses a lot of the time.

I have no defense for those losses to the Knicks, Grizzlies, and Cavs that we just gave away on a silver platter. Win just one of those and we're a #2 seed and in a very comfortable position.
