It's with sadness that I have learned that two friends close to former NBA player Jerome Kersey say he died today.
I always appreciated that Kersey (along with Mario Elie, of course) brought some "nasty" to the Spurs during that '99 run to the Finals.

First of the Spurs that have won a title to pass away. Very sad to hear this news. Will always remember him from the '99 team. "Probably the nicest collection of athletes you'll ever be around."

Here.

I totally get the passion for the Spurs' 1999 team, but 99.999% of NBA fans remember Jerome as a great Portland Trailblazer. Calling him a Spur is like calling Hakeem a Raptor. Wait, he won a title. I know. Maybe it's more like calling Gary Payton a Miami Heat.

Dude, no one is saying he'll be remembered as a Spur more than as a Blazer. That's beside the point. The fact that he was on that first Spurs title team is a huge deal--everyone on that roster is immortalized in Alamo City basketball lore.

I know he's a lifelong blazer, but for me personally, the moment I heard the news, I pictured him in a #25 silver and black jersey.

I always liked him when he played for the Blazers and was really glad when he came to the Spurs. Thumbs up for a life well lived that was way too short.

Along with Kemp, perhaps the two best power dunkers of at least their generation.

The reason he died is real interesting when you consider what ended Chris Bosh's season: Kersey died when a blood clot traveled from his left calf to his left lung, causing a pulmonary thromboembolism.

Edit: And could be what end's Bosh's career.
