Wow that's pretty crazy. Not sure how that works out. Even in the loaded West you'd think these two were lucks, especially Lillard. Cousins missed some time but Westbrook has missed just as much and Durant nearly twice as much.

At least Silver can put one in to replace Kobe. My guess is he goes with Lillard.

Still don't know how you put Duncan in over Cousins, or even Durant no matter how good he is. He hasn't even played half of the Thunder's games.

Z-Bo and Conley both snubbed too.

Coaches pick reserves. Coaches = do not like Cousins, Coaches = respect Tim Duncan. Pretty simple concept. I called this last night actually just because of that fact.

Silver needs to revamp the whole all-star voting procedure. Durant shouldn't be in just because the amount of games he's missed. Kobe obviously shouldn't have been voted.

Watching every Spurs game like I do, I think Duncan deserves it just because he has carried this team so far this year. His numbers definitely don't compare to others so I can see how someone would disagree and I don't have a problem with that.

I think Memphis deserves an all-star as well.

Memphis has an all star

Oh yeah, wasn't thinking.

As a rule for injuries, something as simple as "you have to play more games then you have missed" would work. That would eliminate Durant.

Also don't understand how teams are allowed to dress 13 players for every regular season game but there are only 12 all-stars. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I usually don't care but this season I'm pissed off at the All-Star selections

duncan as an all-star

Not that crazy. He's somehow leading the league in a lot of the advanced defensive statistics.

People that laugh at that selection are the people who look at box scores and think they can judge someones impact from it.

Duncan is ranked ridiculously high in a lot of the advanced stats that a lot of the coaches put weight on around the league. His +/- and win shares is off the charts.

if you want to make this an all-stats thing, fine, duncan shouldn't be an all-star, but leaving off the possible DPOY is just stupid. just because he doesn't pull 14 rebounds per game doesn't mean he isn't an impact player. kevin love used to pull down 15+ on the reg and he is a garbage defender.

also, i really like durant, he's incredible, yada yada, but he shouldn't be playing in the allstar game. this thing is a popularity contest through and through. boogie is having a monster year and durant has played in all of 15 games.

DeMarcus Cousins has been announced as the replacement for Kobe

Every pundit I've seen believe Duncan is an all star this year. The funny thing is he probably cares the least about being there.

Come June, I'd rather have Duncan on my team than Cousins.

I think he'd prefer to miss it honestly. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him suffer some minor injury in the last game before the all star break, sit out the 4th quarter, and then skip the whole thing.

Duncan's ranking (conference ranking)

Rebounds 10th (5th)
Blocks 6th (5th)
PER 17th (12th) ...that and the box +/- stat listed below should give a hint as to just how much better the East is than the West.
Block % 8th (6th)
DRtg 2nd (2nd) ... btw, the top three have separated from the pack, and Kawhi Leonard is third
Defensive win shares 4th (3rd)
Box +/- 14th (12th)
Defensive Box +/- 1st (1st) and by a comfortable margin
PIE 11th (9th)

He's also 14th among forwards in assist % (would be 6th among C)

Basically, if all you look at is points scored then Duncan is out. If you know there are two ends of the court, he's easily in. If you consider that he kept a team that has had an average of 3 players and 1.5 starters out to injury all year in the playoffs and winning over 60% of their games, it's laughable to think he should be excluded.

Cousins has to score for the Kings, Timmy can delegate that to others on the Spurs because they have better shooters.

True but that shouldn't be held against Cousins shouldering more of the load. His performance is better because of it.

Wouldn't that make Cousins stats more impressive cause he doesn't have that many good shooters on the Kings?

Were Love's stats a product of being a good player or being on a crap team and having to score all the time? So far this year it looks like the former way more than the latter.

Cousins is much the same. The Kings are 16-29. I'm like Barkley and wins matter.

As long as you do it efficiently then yes. Look at Kobe. Terrible team and terrible player even though he has tons of stats.

Ridiculous. Kobe was putting up similar numbers on a three-peat team.

A lot of guys put up good numbers on bad teams when they're the best player. Those same guys (good players) put up average numbers on good teams when surrounded by better players (Chris Bosh) and bad numbers on bad teams when surrounded by better players (Kevin Love).

Kobe put up numbers with Shaq who, during the three-peat, was the best player in the NBA. His numbers went even higher (81) when surrounded by scrubs. Kevin Love has played his entire career surrounded by scrubs (and bad coaching) until this season. Now he has a past-his-prime LBJ and a not-yet-in-his-prime Drew and he is a straight up bum.

Let me know if I'm reading into your post incorrectly, but if you're saying Kevin Love is similar to Kobe Bryant, you are dead ass wrong. As far as productivity-to-situation ratios go, Kevin Love is closer to Tyreke Evans than he could ever be to Kobe Bryant.

I'm talking 2014-15 Kobe. He scored 20 a game but it look him 20 shots. He has stats on a bad team but is not good. Love Would score 25 + on well under 20 shots but he'd do other things well like rebounding. Just because he couldn't carry a bad team doesn't mean he's not good or an all star.
Deputy Travis Junior

Kevin Love can go out and score 20+/night if he doesn't have to work with anybody else, but force him to be part of a team and his offensive efficiency tanks. And his defense is just abominable.

He's not an all star quality player and really, I wouldn't even want him on the Spurs.

EDIT: I did a little searching and found this video on Love's usage in Cleveland:

Looks like some of his ineffectiveness is definitely on the coaching staff. That's what I get for listening to the guys on ESPN instead of doing my own research haha.

Lots of players have a lot of points when they are the only option. Was Shareef Abdur-Rahim as good as Chris Webber?
