Well clearly the guy is a train wreck or the Pistons wouldn't have cut him.

If I could have him on the Rockets as my first defender off the bench with the understanding that he shouldn't shoot the ball unless it's a dunk, and give me 20-25 minutes of baller defense, I'd take him - but not at $13 million/year for the next 2 seasons.

Actually, he was just regular-old waived. Not amnestied. So once he clears waivers (no way someone would be dumb enough to take on that contract), then his entire salary is owed by the pistons regardless of how much he signs for later.

So, regardless of what he signs for, the Pistons will pay him every dime of that contract. That is why the Rickets having a $2m bi-annual exception available puts them in the lead for Smith. He can get his full payout PLUS another $2M per for a couple years with the Rockets, whereas the extra with the other suitors (Mavs, Miami, etc) would be the vet min.

If Smith had the mindset to play lockdown d and only shoot ultra efficient shots, he wouldn't have been waived...

Not saying it couldn't happen, but when a player undergoes that kind of transformation, it's the exception not the rule. Plus, I'm not so sure Houston's 3 point happy offense is going to help corral Smith's love of the long jumper.

It's a no brainer for houston to add Smith, basically a no risk move with all upside. If he sucks just cut his ass.

After watching him perform in his first Rockets game against Memphis, I think it was a tremendous trade. The D Howard influence was obviously huge. Yeah 9 for 21 was not good but he did far better than expected at fitting in and trying to work within the team concepts. With T Jones still out, his work at the 4 is a big boost. Seems like he was pursued by numerous teams - Mavs, Clippers and others. Glad the good guys got him!!,

What happened to my Ag Tag?

After a few games I am starting to see why he was waived.

Pistons 6-0 since dumping Smith. Rockets 3-4 since acquiring Smith. Is this random or does it mean something?

I think it was good for Detroit. Houston remains to be seen. JSmoove isn't causing the other shooters % to be so bad
