Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey selected White with the 16th overall pick in the 2012 draft, but White has yet to appear in an NBA game.

"I take some sort of pride in that you could argue that Royce White is the worst first-round pick ever," Morey said in an interview with Rockets blog ClutchFans.net.

White, who is 6-foot-8, has struggled with an acknowledged anxiety disorder that would make it a challenge for him to play a full NBA season.

"He's the only one that never played a minute in the NBA that wasn't just a foreign guy staying in Europe," Morey said. "It just shows we swing for the fence."

A bad first round pick, but not the biggest bust/worst selection ever.

Granted there are some guys who got injured and/or died, but I would offer this guy as biggest bust ever (without an injury).



However, given the fact that Thabeet has at least played in the NBA, he's better than Royce White. Thabeet would have been a solid draft choice at pick #24.

Royce is the WOAT draft pick.

Qualifiers like who went after them and what actual draft position they were taken at don't apply to Royce White. He would have been horrible at 1 or 60. We could have signed him from the D League or from some club team in Turkey. He still would have been a failure in every way imaginable.

Oden was a starter on a playoff team. Thabeet is at least hilarious to look at. Royce spent more time complaining on Twitter than my little emo cousins.

Add in the fact that the Rockets had to pay another team to cut him to avoid a lawsuit and I think it is safe to say DM is correct.

For the record, I thought it was a good pick too...

I shot the preseason game that Royce played in Houston so a lot of my pics are getting used in these stories about how much he sucked. Not a lot of pics of him playing in the NBA.

Anyway, I thought he looked great on the court and had a lot of talent.

One could argue that having some players on the court who have negative wins produced are worse than being a 0 like Royce White.

But I agree with Guitarsoup. White was the 16th pick and therefore had modest expectations. If not playing is the criteria for being worst, Bias wins.

Bias was dead before training camp. White was and is still physically able to play basketball and has still not managed to log more NBA minutes than you, me, and Len Bias combined.

Look, I understand that rockets fans want to be the best in something but seriously this isn't the category to fight so hard for.

Bad pick? Sure. Worst ever, no. He wasn't even a lottery pick. As stated he had modest expectations.

Being the worst pick should mean there was big expectations and the guy never delivered, especially if a hall of famer was drafted next.

Kwame Brown is averaging 6 and 5 for his career and is still collecting a paycheck for some unknown reason, drafted 1st.

Oden played 82 games in 6 years or so with Durant drafted second.

White has 0 win shares? That's better than this guy:

Blah blah BR but they still collected negative win shares for the last 25 years.

Not mentioned as much, but the Bulls lost 14 of 15 to end the season to get MJ. Would have been worse but a few games before they lost a 4OT game against the Blazers in a game that featured 2 teams "playing for next season" and refusing to win.

And also another OT loss to the Cavs playing with the same attitude. I think had the Cavs beat the Bulls, there at least would have been a coin flip to determine who had the 3rd pick.
