No, Simmons is still horrible on NBA Countdown. The only reason he's entertaining tonight is because Bilas has done a great job breaking down the college player, Fran with the international, and I'll even give Jalen Rose credit tonight. Simmons has only had to bring 1-liners which he can't only bring on NBA Countdown. Once the Boston trade happened it became hilarious, which added to the laughter, except that last exchange was ridiculous by Simmons. I love watching him cry like a little beetch on TV, but the truth is he has absolutely no idea about what happened behind the scenes.

When the Celts began figuring out how to star the firesale, KG and Pierce wanted out of that situation just as much as Doc did no doubt. For some reason I see Rajon Rondo being a major factor in Doc not wanting to deal with rebuilding the Celtics around him and without KG/Pierce.

Here is what I don't understand about the Celtics move.

They retained a lot of salary on the return.

Wallace is tied up for 3 more years at over $10 mil a year.
Humphries is set to make 12 mil next year.

They could have had Pierce off the books this year, and Garnett next year, if not earlier as a trade to a contender.

Clearly I don't have all the details.

Yea I can't figure out that trade from the Boston side for the life of me. They get Brooklyn's first round pick next year but that could be in the mid 20's (if it is their original pick). I don't get it.

Iowaggie, JT going to Brooklyn helps negate Wallace's contract.

Celts get out from under the contracts of KG/Pierce/Terry...and I'm sure KG/PP did not want to do a rebuild...and they picked up 3 future 1st rounders for it, including 1 next year. The Celts will likely blow next year, and have a decently high pick of their own, plus wherever the Nets pick is.

Not the greatest trade the Celtics could have made, but probably the only team out there that was truly willing to help Boston dump and give draft picks in return.

Nets starting 5: Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Brook Lopez.

With Terry coming off the bench. They were in a position to make the same move the Celtics did by getting KG and Allen a handful of years back. Put together a seemingly very strong team and make a run at it on a short time table and the Celts just said **** it and dumped.

Spurs draft a head case with their second round pick. Awesome.

They owed Pierce no more money, they had the option, so they were already away from his contract.

They owed Garnett + JET about $17.5 next year, and JET only about $5 mil the next year. Then both are off the books.

They will owe Wallace + Humphries $22 mil next year, then Wallace $20 mil over the next two years.

They actually took on more financial obligation just to get 3 bad draft picks.

But if you have Pierce and garnet t you won't be bad enough to bottom out and get a top pick in next year's stacked Draft class

exactly. Garnett/Pierce/Rondo doesn't put you in the horrible category.

Also, by allowing Pierce to go to a contender to finish his career, it avoids the decision of having to cut him in the next few days which would no doubt piss off the fanbase. It also means they wouldn't have to try and renegotiate and/or pay him 15 mil next year to stick around on a lost cause team.

I'd assume Rondo will move next, allowing the Celtics to gain more picks/dump money. The Wallace ****ty contract won't be a major factor for the next 3 years if they can get rid or Rondo and pick up more picks or good young/cheap talent

I think Rondo stays. I feel so sorry for that next coach. He is going to be in a very tough position.

Who know's, maybe luck will fall on Boston's side after they lost out in '97.

Rondo is going to go before the season starts to finish the salary dump. KG likely wanted to go to a contender as it was clear Boston was going to be rebuilding.

I think it all stems from rebuilding. If the Celts get out from under Rondo for good value, then Wallace's 3 years is basically nothing, and they don't look awful for "letting" Pierce and KG go try for another title before they are done with their careers. It allowed them to avoid having to cut Pierce. That's worth a lot IMO.
