If Cuban sticks to the plan he will fill the ~20mm that would have gone to Dwight with 2-3 long term 2nd-3rd tier players and save the powder for a max FA next off-season assuming Dirk stays and takes a pay cut down to ~10mm

Bynum is an enormous pos but he's now the best FA center on the market. Giving that jerkoff a big contract seems like a horrible idea. Someone will.

GSW renounced the rights to Jarrett Jack and he was a big part of what they did last year. I'd like the Mavs to go after him.

The other option is to trade Dirk, tank 2013, and re-sign him in free agency.

Part of me is disappointed to see the Mavs miss out on another big time FA. But the other part is glad we don't have to put up with the Superman act and other ridiculousness that comes with Howard.

So let me get this straight...the mavs won't sign Chandler because of his questionable health, but they'll pursue Andrew Bynum? Well played Dallas...well played...

Plan B:
-go back in time and re-sign Chandler and either clear space to sign Deron hoping he'll sign with Dirk+Chandler or continue the old method of flipping assets.

Plan C:
-sign Bynum to a multi year deal starting at ~13mm. Pray that he has at least half of a good first season so he has trade value next year.
-commit to tanking for 2014 with only Bynum+Calderon signed long term
-trade Marion for picks+young assets
-trade Dirk to a contender for expirings/picks/young assets and hope that he returns to Dallas next year at a ~10mm/year contract (Dirk to New York for Amare's expiring contract+stuff, Dirk to Indiana for Granger's expiring+stuff, Dirk to Golden State/Memphis/San Antonio/Houston/Miami as part of a 3 way)
-spend 2014 living vicariously through Dirk's temporary new team
-watch the Mavs get a top 5 pick in the 2014 lottery which can be used as a major trade asset like Boston 2007
-play the powder game again in summer 2014

Tyson Chandler has been pretty bad in the playoffs the last two years.

Funny that no maverick fan was saying this 2-3 years ago...funny how that works. Same with Deron Williams as a coach killer...no mav fan spewed this until he chose to stay in Brooklyn.

I'm not sure what's more funny, these comments or the last mav fan saying a healthy Bynum is arguable better than Dwight Howard (of course this comment is coming on the heels of the news the mavs are looking to sign Bynum...I fully expect the "well Bynum is garbage with bad knees" comments to begin if he signs anywhere other than Dallas...)

No Mavs fan was saying Tyson Chandler was an elite center. He was fortunate to play next to Dirk and Dirk was fortunate to play with Tyson.

They shored up each other's weaknesses and complemented each other perfectly. Not so much anymore.

You know what's funny? Saying the mavs were going to lose to the Heat in 2011 and that not happening.
