I'm surprised no one has mentioned Darren Collison. The dude is putting the team on his back and leading this Mavs squad

Deron Williams better than Tony Parker? Lol. Do you really believe that nonsense? Every coach in the nba would take Parker over Williams. Same with Westbrook, whose athleticism and moves are off the charts, but who is still quite average when it comes to distributing and running an offense.

Simmons' column about rondo summed him up pretty well. Good rondo is one of the best players in the league. Unfortunately, good rondo only shows up on occasion. Most of the time you get headcase rondo, who's thinking about his assist stats and how his moves will look on sportscenter. Parker is far more consistent, stretches the floor better (rondo is not a distance shooter), drives with the best of them, and is still a great passer.

CP is the only guy you brought up who might be better. I think CP is fantastic, but Parker is near his level. They bring different skill sets to the table.

If I'm being honest, my real opinion is that At some point trying to assign hard ranks gets a little silly because players are in different situations, have different teammates, coaching, etc. Paul has to carry his team and probably coach it too. Parker on the other hand has smart teammates who've been coached by one of the top 3-4 coaches in nba history. Pop's team dissected the clippers last night and last playoffs. Nobody had any idea what the hell was going on, which put a ton of pressure on Paul.

Anyway, i think both could be the cornerstone of a championship team.

I'm sorry, CP3 is NOT better than Parker. At best, it's a wash, IMO.

Paul's a better distance shooter and passer.

Parker's faster, a better finisher at the rim, and more efficient scorer.

But on a serious note if you were to take a survey on which PG you'd rather have, most people would choose Rose and Paul over Parker

If you were to ask NBA GM's across the league which PG they would take for 1 season I think it would be closer then most think.

Obviously the casual fan will take the flash and whoever the media pronounces better..

Yeah, but Timmy Parker's ashleymadison.com commercials are even better yet.

CP3 and Rondo are ahead of him, but he's definitely up there. Good for him.

i can see the argument for chris paul, but you're a crack smoking mavs fan if you think rondo is better than TP.

I'd rather have Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose, or Deron Williams on my payroll. Parker is a top-5 PG, he's not the best.

Typical spurs fans always declaring themselves the greatest and getting ahead of themselves. Remember last year when all we heard was this is the most well-oiled, unstoppable, 5-man machine the game has ever seen? Then OKC happened. Spurs fans are the worst, they have only one team to root for in the entire city, so they go annoyingly overboard with everything.

Nothing said about his points in the paint yet? Isn't he 2nd to wade for guards points in the paint? Tony has nothing but improve year in and year out. He has essentially sought out every weakness in his game and done nothing but improve on all of them. His durability is incredible. He probably hits the deck 50% of the time he's in the paint.

I love the wouldn't trade arguement. So he's a top 6 PG but wouldn't get traded for the #5 PG. Makes perfecect sense. If you'd simply watch this guy play and turn off the spur hate, it would be clear that he is playing at an MVP level. Right now he's the total package; scorer, passer, defender, leader, clutch, durable, versatile, level headed, the list goes on and on.

I have a hard time comparing elite players. All elite players have their reasons for being basically the best at what they do. Trying to compare their abilities to perform is foolish. That fact of the matter is tony is playing at an MVP level and FINALLY getting some recognition.

I love that Mavs fans have nothing better to do this season than to troll a thread about Tony Parker and bring up last year's WCF results!

You just prefer a circle jerk?

I'm cheering for the Rockets. The better they are, the more money I make. Plus they are fun and all the guys I have interacted with have been pretty cool.

No way Oui Oui gets the MVP. And for the genius who said Westbrook is an injury risk....you do realize he's never missed a game in his NBA career, right?
Ulrich

Sorry, I didn't explain that well enough for people like you. Because Westbrook relies so much on his explosive athleticism, if he gets an injury that slows him down, it will turn him from a good player into a pretty bad one. He doesn't have great decision making, ball handling, basketball iq, or shooting to fall back on. Parker would still be an effective PG even if he gets a lot slower because he already plays below the rim and is better in all of the aforementioned categories.

Could be argued that parker developed those skills in the course of his nba career, after he was already older than Westbrook is now... and that he was not as good as Westbrook is now at the same age.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
After his rookie year, Parker has always played intelligently and below the rim. The consistent jumper he picked up right around his 4th-5th season (Westbrook is in his 5th season). The main difference over the last few years is how much more the ball is in his hands.

Parker was finals MVP around the same age (6 months off)

The only time the Spurs have ever considered trading Tony was back when they were in hot pursuit of Jason Kidd.

Haha WRONG. How quickly Spurs fans forget. Poppovich has been willing to trade Parker for a decade. It's documented at least as late as 2011:

Spurs willing to trade Parker for lottery pick

Poppovich would trade Parker right now for Kyrie, or Westbrook, or Rose, or Deron, or Paul. He'd think hard about Rondo. Because he's smart and knows more about basketball than any of us or any talking heads and knows Parker isn't the best PG in the NBA. He'd be willing to upgrade, you can bank on that.
