I approve of this.

Although I don't see how this really helps against the Celtics or the Heat. The mammoth front line has been the Lakers biggest advantage in the playoffs the last couple of years. Does Melo play D?

You can take Bynum off their front line and they're still the biggest team in the league. I think it would skyrocket the lakers into 90's Bulls status if this happened. Kobe/Carmelo would be every bit as good as MJ/Pippen. Imagine if Phil had Gasol and Odom as 3rd and 4th options for the Bulls. The only issue is whether Carmelo would be okay taking a secondary role.

i don't see any way denver does a straight up deal. bynum has missed a ton of time, is owed $15mil next season and the team option for the next season is $16mil.

i don't think bynum sells a ton of tickets for you, so it just seems the nuggets would be better served rebuilding through FA and the draft.

They'll get stomped inside, just like Miami will.

I also don't think Denver will do it straight up. The package from New Jersey was 5x better and got nixed because of Melo.

I don't think the Nuggets are going to be okay with just Bynum just because Melo would sign off with going to L.A.

"Bleacher Report" says it may be Gasol and not Bynum

That's not going to happen. Pau is the Lakers most important player (although ironically it's Odom playing well that makes them unbeatable, not Gasol or Kobe).

there's no way the nuggets will do this for bynum straight up. unless they are super desperate.

if the lakers give up Pau ill burn the city of denver to the ground.

im not even sure the lakers should give up bynum. LA doesn't have to be the new miami.

that being said...the lakers may be looking to longer-term super star once kobe goes the way of the dodo.

Denver would be unbelievably stupid to do that. Trade their super star for a very good, but brittle center who's probably got another year or two before he ends up like Yao.

That trade makes no sense for Denver. They'd be better off losing Melo in the offseason and then building from the ground up. Or working a S&T this summer.

Of course, it didn't make any sense when Memphis gave away Gasol either.

Would that be the best starting five ever?

i tend to think denver is using LA to drive NY's offer up.

that said, i think any deal with melo landing in LA is going to have to involve a 3rd team.

If Anthony to LA for Bynum to Denver occurs, I will do a JRS04 poopslap.

It ain't happening.

In the modern era, I'd have to say it would be up there among the best. Fisher is the only weak link and even he's good for a clutch shot every 3 games. Bird/McHale/Parish/DJ/Ainge is the only other lineup I can think of that can match it star for star. Theoretically the '04 Lakers but they had all kinds of chemistry issues.

And not to mention Malone and Payton were well past their prime

great team. Didn't LA have Magic, Kareem, BScott, Worthy, and Perkins?

"I told Derrick Caracter that if Denver gave us Anthony straight up, then we would trade Derrick Caracter for Anthony," Jackson said, smiling as he talked about the Lakers' seldom-used second-round draft pick. "That's the only trade I want on this basketball club, if that's one that works out."

i'd entertain it.

Kareem was long gone by the time Sam Perkins showed up. The Lakers best lineup in the 80's was probably Kareem/Magic/Worthy/Green/Scott (with Coop coming off the bench). Very salty lineup although Kareem wasn't as effective from the mid-80's going forward.

Ironically I was a HUGE Lakers fan growing up. Magic was my favorite player and I really liked AC Green and Byron Scott. I loved watching those old "showtime" teams. At that time, the Lakers were on TV in San Antonio a lot more than the Spurs.

my fault. I was thinking of Green vs. Perkins.
