Denver has zero power in this. Lets give em Lowry, Jeffries, Hill and the two 1st round picks next year. They get a lot cheaper, and have 3 1st round picks to rebuild around.

assuming melo doesn't come out and say he'll only sign an extension with the knicks, the nuggets will have plenty of power in this.

melo has already said he'd considering signing with ny, nj and houston. so that alone is enough leverage for denver to demand more talent than you're offering in your scenario.

I dont think we have to. NJ has nothing to offer but Devin Harris and their 1st rd pick. We have two first rounders and Lowry. Throw in Hill and Jeffries to make the money work. Lets throw Battier in too, we wont need him with Melo/Lee.

Now we might have to take on one of their garbage contracts though, do they even have one?

We would kick ass:

Brooks/?
Martin/Bud
Melo/Lee
Scola/Patterson
Yao/Miller

what if new jersey was offering favors?

what if new york is offering gallinari?

denver is going to have some options, so assuming they want young talent in return, i seriously doubt you'd be able to low-ball them.

as for denver, they're really set up pretty well long-term from a cap perspective. kenyon martin is making big money, but only for this season. if they just wanted to save some money though, the rockets could give them an additional $4mil in relief by taking on birdman's contract.

and honestly, if the nuggets were interested in a PG (which i doubt since they have billups and lawson), i'd rather give them brooks than lowry.

Um, Brook Lopez? Derrick Favors? Troy Murphy and his large expiring deal/production? Damion James? Anthony Morrow? Travis Outlaw?

For being so bad last season, the Nets actually have a nice amount of good pieces to package together.

This is Billups last year on his deal. he's making 14 mil, I doubt they resign him when they are in rebuild mode.

And I'd hate to give up Brooks who can jack from 3 to keep Lowry who can't shoot period. With a healthy Yao we need shooters.

From the comments under tha link, this is exactly what I'm thinking.

quote:
The three teams mentioned are Hou, NY, and NJ. Obviously those teams have to offer something to the Nuggets and since NY and NJ would have to gut their teams to appease the Nuggets why would Melo want to go play there? NY would have to give up Gallinari and Randolph and maybe Chandler, NJ is not giving up Lopez the Nuggets wouldn't want Harris so maybe Favors. However the Rockets can offer a ton of cheap young talent, expiring contracts, NY lotto picks, and have a TE to take back a bad contract like the Birdman who has 4 years left and is coming off knee surgery.

The point is the Rockets wouldn't have to gut their team to provide a package of talent to Denver. They could help the Nuggets get under the luxury tax and rebuild all while Melo could compete for a ring right now with Yao, Scola, Brooks, and Martin.

If Melo really wants to go to Houston, Morey will get this done and probably for a lot less than everyone thinks.

By the way, Knick fans it's going to be hilarious waching us get Melo instead of you by using the assets like Hill, Jeffries, and draft picks we acquired by fleecing you last year!

My Fnatasy would be to some how package together Billups and Melo...I know it would never happen but nice to imagine. May have to get rid of Martin in that though.

Billups is old and overpaid no way Smart Money Man Morey takes that fossil.

Brooks > Billups when you factor salary and age

I agree Bob..however was just thinking if he has this next season left on the deal we could use it as a salary dump. Although Denver would want to use that too.

not to de-rail the thread, but i think lowry is a better all-around PG than brooks.

there's no question brooks is the more dynamic offensive player and a much better shooter, but lowry is a better distributor, rebounder and defender.

honestly, if the rockets got melo, i'd prefer to play lowry with melo and yao and then use brooks as a spark off the bench.

obviously a long way to go on this melo story and these are still just rumors and speculation, but here's an excerpt from a recent yahoo sports article:

quote:
Anthony has hesitated to sign a three-year, $65 million extension and expressed intrigue with opting out of his contract next summer to become a free agent. Despite significant speculation the New York Knicks are the team that Anthony would most likely want to join, two sources close to him insisted the Knicks have been overstated as an object of his desire. Privately, Anthony has expressed more enthusiasm over joining the Houston Rockets than the Knicks, sources said.

i do agree. and I love Brooks. Lowry would fit better with Melo/Martin/Yao all as scorers on the court. Brooks is a great scorer, and thats too many mouths to feed i think. Hate to lose Brooks, but might be for the better if we have a shot at Melo

I'll beleive it when I see it. I bet he tries to one-up Lebron and company by joining forces with some other young super star.
