Just about to post this. This is great news. San Antonio's front court just got a whole lot better. Now if we could only find a 3 to go along with it (Jefferson in all likelihood).

Also, I don't mind the Bonner signing. He provides the rare skill of spreading the floor as a big man. If he can return to the form he was in before he broke his hand, which i think he can, it will pay dividends.

Bonner signed a 4-year deal. Holy ****.

I just don't understand signing Bonner, what position is he going to play? The Spurs have Duncan, McDyess, Blair, and Splitter now...so I guess Bonner is going to play the 3?

I think this means McDyess is on his way out. I really like him, but signing Bonner and Splitter, the playing time just doesn't add up. I think he will be traded, especially if Jefferson doesn't re-sign so the Spurs can try and get a decent SF.

Stretch-4. Having a post player that can hit the outside shot has become increasingly important. The Spurs are SORELY lacking three-point shooters, and Bonner is one of three players on the team that can actually hit it. Hill and Ginobili are the other two. The Spurs are desperate for another 3-point shooter.

Roger Mason hit more 3's than Hill and 2 less than Bonner last season. and this was during a "he's awfully awful" year

bonner needs to hit them in the clutch. i don't care what bowen's percentages were, he was absolutely clutch in big time situations.

if bonner can't do that, then we don't need him IMO

...what Drey said....tired of Bonner firing bricks in the playoffs when we need him most.

Bonner spent a lot of last year hurt. Breaking your hand is generally not good for your shooting stroke.

He hit 39% of his threes last year, 44% the year before and is at 41% for his career.

Hill his 40% of his threes and made 75 threes in 78 games. Are you trying to argue that that isn't a good three point shooter?

I will take 48%/40%/77% shooting out of my PG/SG any day. Hill's true shooting % was .572 and his effective FG% was .529. For instance, Kobe has never had a higher effective FG% and only twice in his career has he had a higher true shooting %. Kobe's never shot 40% from three and has failed to get more than 75 threes made in 7 of his 14 seasons.

So yeah, I will take Hill's shot.

I know it's a pipe dream, but I actually do wish they would bring Mason back. I think they need someone with a decent shot to bring in to spell Manu (I don't believe James Anderson is the ticket yet). I don't see who they will land for the minimum to fill that role now, so it would be nice to just go ahead and keep Mason.

They also need to get Jefferson re-signed or this will be the worst Spurs team of the Tim Duncan era. (or at least contend with one of the early 2000s teams for the honor)

Glad it's supposedly done with Splitter. If we didn't get him, we were completely screwed.

I'm actually okay with Bonner is he plays a limited role. Pop needs to bring Bonner in and if he misses his first 2 3PTAs, he needs to be benched for the rest of the game.

Seriously though....

With Splitter apparently coming over and Bonner reaching an agreement to return, I'm assuming that the Spurs now only have minimum contracts to play with.

Who is going to back up Manu when he inevitably goes down with an injury? I'd assume if he plays at all, James Anderson will be subbing in at SF mostly (this assumes the Spurs are able to re-sign Jefferson).

I would really like to get Raja Bell. Don't know how we could do it without a trade though...

The Spurs still have:
Lower Level Exception (worth almost 2mm/year for two years)
Richard Jefferson - can be signed for any amount or S&T for another player or a cap exception
Roger Mason - can resign or S&T. Early Bird Exception
Ian Mahinmi - Bird rights. Can be (won't be) signed or S&T.
Minimum - can sign as many minimum FAs as they want, until the team has 15 players.
