SEC play is here already! The Aggies start their conference schedule with an away game at the University of Kentucky.

Kentucky is 4-3 on the year. All three losses were of the 2-1 variety, including a narrow loss at #6 Ohio State, as well as home losses to Bowling Green and rival Louisville.

The four wins were of the beat down variety, with Kentucky demolishing the teams they should beat: Detroit Mercy 6-0, Kent State 5-2, Dayton 5-0, and Wright State 9-1.

A&M lost to UK 0-3 last season at Ellis Field.

This game is on SEC+. The next home game is September 24.

In his interviews from yesterday and today, Bobby again made sure to talk about how young the team was and how they are still coming together. Also said Sexton was impressive and the coaches are willing to look past her mistakes in order to gain experience. The coaches have been willing to allow a few of them to make mistakes so far, but at what point in the season do you just need to win games? That said, the line-up will likely be similar to last game, except for Diaz as she was carted off from the sideline to the locker room after the game. I would be shocked to see her out there on Friday, so maybe Ruiz or Knudsen in place of Diaz to start?

It's only the first conference game, but feels like getting a result on the road here is important as the next few are going to be really tough. Vanderbilt is currently ranked #2, Alabama is #11 and Florida is #23.

Personally, I think every player out there has made plenty of mistakes. That's part of the game. Bobby has also been pretty clear that he's playing the players he believes give the team the best chance to win. Those two things aren't contradictory.

Making mistakes doesn't necessarily mean a player isn't helping the team win, and gaining experience doesn't mean the coaches are sacrificing results for development. The question is what a player contributes over the entirety of the match, not whether she makes a mistake.

My takeaway is that nobody is entitled to start or play. Matchups, performance, and what the team needs will dictate who gets the opportunity. Every player just needs to be ready when her number is called.

I have confidence in all of these young ladies. It is a tough job and I recognize the work they are putting in. Whether they touch the field during game or not, they have a role to play and they need to get over the mental part, which no doubt may be harder than the game itself. Hang tight and stay positive. They've almost done better than last year and were just entering conference play.

I think we have been playing the ball backwards to August too much and that last one she kicked with her left foot and didn't get much on it and 20 seconds later the ball was in the back of the net.
