I think this will be the last time G coaches at Ellis. Probably for the rest of the coaching staff, too.

The unwillingness of the coaching staff to adapt and overcome is evident. As mentioned in previous posts, the coach threw the players under the bus last year, said he was going to recruit from the portal, and then promptly sat those transfer players on the bench in favor of an almost identical lineup as last year. Same ol' stuff.

Also, there is a reason players that have been here for four years have very few goals in the grand scheme of things. Why do they repeatedly try to take on multiple defenders or take a bad shot rather than make a simple pass? The reason is because the simple pass isn't rewarded while the speed at which they beat a player before losing the ball is. Why not stress the importance of not turning over the ball in the first place? Why not try playing a game where players keep the ball, move it around the field, and patiently wait for a breakdown in the defense to take a smart shot? It all comes down to behaviors that are rewarded and those that are not. Ultimately, the style of play and the success or lack thereof is determined by the coaches. And the midfield…for all the hype, Becerra and Ivey are non-factors. The coaches are responsible for who they put on the field and for how the team plays. Simple as that.

Turned on the game to see what the score was. Got to see the Lackadaisical play that allowed the second goal. Didn't realize how slow the team had gotten. Anticipation skills are totally lacking, too.

Pitiful way to end the season. Watching MSU take the conference championship at the Aggies expense. New coach is going to have to do a complete overhaul.

I think several of our players can be very, very good with the right kind of coaching, the right strategies, etc. New coach watch has been going on for awhile but it really heats up now!

The transfer thing was puzzling to me… Allison Lowery played and scored often for a final four team, but G stuck to our girls who have struggled to score for so long! Leah Pirro was a pre season all American for her play last year, yet never played in a midfield that is awful! Same for Kennedy Clark.

Coach G says during middle of conference play last year "we need to go get finishers in the portal because our girls aren't cutting it" then just doesn't play any transfers.

That is sort of his job, right?

Same with a basketball coach. But you don't see the basketball players lose their focus. If anything, they get stronger and more determined to overcome adversity.
not the case with G's girls… when he uses every media availability to talk about how the refs gave LSU 2 girls rather than owning up to the loss, you have a culture where there is no accountability and lots of whining and complaining

I agree with you.

I'm good with him defending his team when he sees something live during a game and lets the ref know it at that moment. But that moment needs to disappear immediately and you play on.

The lack of accountability and resiliency in the team culture is a problem. To be complaining about it on the radio show directly later in the week is ridiculous.

If this result holds… If we make the SEC tournament and lose in the first round we will not qualify for the NCAA.
We kinda need this to happen so our AD can fire G with no hesitation. This scenario works in our favor.

How many conference games have we won the past 4 years

2021 - 3
2022 - 3
2023 - 4
2024 - 3

If you're fighting for Coach G to stay, these are the results you want and you are fine with being a below average team who may or may not make the tournament.

2 goals in the last 7.5 hours of play. Believe I saw Bella James on crutches and her right leg was wrapped up like other players I've seen after knee surgery.
Some good news: former player Emily Bates Shewmake was at the game with her husband Braden and their son.

TA is under increasing pressure to make a change due to G's multi-year decline, his recruiting demise, and, most significantly, the exceptional success of the new hires in softball and volleyball.

I see a very narrow to non-existent path for G to return next year.

In post game he said Miss State got fortunate on the first goal and he wasn't sure if it was actually a shot or not and then on the second goal he said the foul on us was interesting and while they were trying to figure it out Miss State went and scored… 4 straight years of excuses… but at least he did the post game presser, this season after he losses hes been skipping them

I was at the game tonight. My first ever. The Aggies played well, I thought overall better than MSU but lost due to lack of finish and exhaustion.

I have no understanding of the Aggie bench strength but there must have been someone to give Calzada a breather. She was the best player on the field on one leg.

From what I saw she's the true game breaker for the Aggies and should have been put up top and fed the ball or played just behind as an attacking mid.

For the most part Aggies wingers could beat their wing backs and big #21 is an excellent target man and facilitator, there was just no one in support to be greedy on the finish.
Calzada seems like she'd have the mentality to do that.

MSU was also missing their star player. If I understand correctly that played a big part in their less than thrilling performance.

The exhaustion piece is brutal. I'm assuming the stubborn old coach doesn't buy into the new unlimited substitution rules. Seems absolutely insane. A&M could beat them on the wing nearly every time and appears to have 3 maybe 4 that could do it. Cycle those girls in and DOG their back line. Eventually they'll sub or wear down and thats when bigger chances happen.

The Aggie back line seemed stout, Calzada is an absolute stud, so is the other CB.

I was surprised at the lack of speed for both teams. The Aggie staff sure likes the girls to do thigh work. I have never seen a collection of players all so built in one facet. Maybe thats why there were so many injured Aggies. Its taking a toll on their knees.

Of course they need to be strong but is it costing top end speed? Agility? Durability?

Matula played well. That 2nd goal was a multi player laps. The Aggie CB combo kept them in that game.

I'm not sure what will happen after the season, but tonight did feel like the end of an era at A&M. We were outclassed and outcoached for most of the match as MSU pulled away for a 2-0 SEC title clinching win on our own field. During the match, I started to wonder how things have deteriorated at A&M so quickly over the last 4 years since we won the SEC title and reached the Elite 8 in 2020. Yes, the talent on the field has diminished, but it's not bottom third of the SEC bad. Yet that's where we find ourselves for the third time in four years. Coach G has won an average of 3 SEC games per season over this stretch, so this is not a one off but instead of clear trendline.

MSU's passing, dribbling, and decision making was superior on all three levels of the field tonight. They are a well coached team. I'm tired of having to say that so many times when a visitor comes to Ellis and outplays us. MSU is a veteran team and have been building to this season, but their smallish players just ran rings around us most of the night in the midfield. #4 for them is a great player and they had a clear strategy in attack. There's a reason a few of our midfield starters finished their home careers on the bench.

The defense is under a lot of pressure and can't be expected to play perfect every match just to stay in games. This is the worst offensive attack I've seen at A&M in a long time, maybe ever. Coach G seems to have tried everything. The transfer portal, unique high school prospects, projects. Nothing has worked. His teams cannot consistently finish in front of goal unless he has overwhelming elite level talent like he had in 2014. It doesn't matter how many shots you take, it matters how many balls go in the back of the net. Look at how efficient MSU was tonight compared to us.

Again, I don't know what Trev will do (some think he's going to make a change), but I think it depends on what the goal is for the program long term. If we are satisfied with .500 type records and barely making the tourney, then let's just keep going with G. But if the goal is to be competitive on the national stage and stop a slow slide into irrelevancy, then there are some really good, younger and hungrier coaches out there that would love this job. It just feels like we are in the latter stages of a Jo Evans or Lori Corbelli program and the longer we wait to fix things, the longer it will take to turn this around. G has had a really good career at A&M and it's no fun to see it slowly decline like this. Sometimes you just have to know when it's time.

I think our girls get winded. Too tired or winded to get goalside of their mark. Basically an undefended shot from distance on first goal. Maybe practice needs to be 90 minutes of running. Or we need more frequent subs

A&M basically played 14 players. MSU played 18 significant minutes. That is HUGE.

Oh yeah, the 1st goal for Miss State was scored by Ally Perry. Frisco, TX and Dallas Sting. Yet another player A&M couldn't or didn't recruit and let escape out of the state.

Looks like several other soccer girls. From Texas got to enjoy an SEC championship on A&M's soccer field on Sunday. I don't know how much they contributed to the championship but it seems like they liked their chances of winning better in Starkville.

Ally Perry is their top scorer and Mandy Anderson is their excellent goalkeeper! What's more likely is because Miss State is an older veteran team, they were a below 500 program when they committed to it. So I can almost guarantee G overlooked all these girls, they've just been coached and developed the right way, which is something that hasn't happened here…

Many great comments on the match and on G.

One person echoed what I have though for quite some time - compared G to Evans. I though she should have been replaced years before she was. Other sports with new coaches have done well. No guarantee, of course, that a new coach would turn things around but we cannot know unless we try.

An easy way to look at the record of the soccer team is:

https://12thman.com/sports/2020/9/19/texas-am-soccer-history

It is missing 2023 but that's nothing.

We have had some really good teams over the years, including some recent years, but I think it is time for the 'G era' to come to an end.

Thought we had the better of the run of play and chances last night, but the familiar scoring anemia continued. At one point we had 7 shots, 4 on goal and 6 corners with nothing to show for it, while MSU had 3 shots, 1 on goal and 0 corners with 1 goal. The two times we gave them a little space in a scoring opportunity, they nailed them. MSU didn't look as good as their record, IMO, but you can't deny results. BTW, a big Armenta fan… attackers simply do not get by her on defense, but would like to see her in the midfield.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The coaches would rather fail with the players they want to succeed than succeed with the players they want to fail. As other posters have mentioned, the bench has many seasoned players who could make a difference if given a real opportunity. But why give anyone else an opportunity when things have been going so well?

Instead of running anderson cooper out there- they could easily put Armenta and Beccerra in the middle and arementa would lock up the middle

but i also say he shouldn't have run off our two best offensive players last year and G should have been let go 10+ years ago
