The U17 Women's World Cup is happening in the Dominican Republic. The USA is 1-0-1 right now and has a good chance of advancing. But I'm posting to discuss the roster. There's a 21-person roster, and a whopping 6 of them are from Texas, all from the DFW area.

Most of these kids are already pros or in college, but damn, these are players A&M is missing out on in the recruiting game. It's sad. I'm not suggesting that we'd get these kids signed and playing for A&M, but we're completely missing out on so much talent in the Dallas area.

Coach G lost this state in recruiting years ago and it's shown… they're all going out of state or tu to play for a chance at the national cup. As poster offsides mentioned, out of the top 20 girls in state for the 2025 and 2026 class, we have 2 committed

I think the ability to contend for championships and style of play are two main factors with most of these girls.

2 committed to UNC (one went pro)
2 committed to UVA (one went pro)
1 committed to FSU
1 committed to Wisconsin

Being in DFW and able to get a direct flight to almost anywhere in the USA in under 3 hours lessens the home state advantage when wanting parents to be able to watch.

Tune into FS2 today @ 3 PM central to watch them take on South Korea for a spot in the quarterfinals vs Nigeria.

Stupid question: My daughter is a young '07 and plays U18/U19 and isn't eligible for U17 in ECNL.

How is this the U17 WWC with '07s?

Very nice finish on that rocket pass. She made it look so easy but it was not.

Goal 4 was a banger. 24 yards away kissed the crossbar and in.

Fun fact about the scorer of the 4th goal.

We've all heard about soccer parents with money trying to buy the best team and so their kid can be a winner. Or they get good gifts for the coach to secure playing time for their son or daughter. Well, Mary Long's parents loved their kid playing so much that they went out a bought a whole team. They literally bought the Utah NWSL team after it folded and moved it to Kansas City, They own the KC Current in NWSL.

We know which team she'll be playing for when she turns pro.

This is the World Cup which started qualifiers in January/February so it's for this last cycle of kids. It was moved back because of the Olympics and U20s and is occurring later than norma. It is usually held every two years so the cycles are a bit longer.

From now it will be held every year so qualifying for this next cycle has already begun with the '08 age groups.

Makes sense. Thanks. My friends daughter is an 08 on that squad.

Thanks - From here on out it's knockout rounds. Nigeria on Saturday. Anyone know any A&M football watch parties from Santiago, DR? or on Sousa Beach if I make it back in time?

Normally it doesn't work like this but Wikipedia might have the best info for events like this.

Thanks. We already put an ass kicking on North Korea. Hope they're focused.

Semis for USA are Wednesday the 30th at 6:00 PM Central time vs N Korea. North Korea won the U20s and the golden ball winner of the U20s is playing with the U17s. We beat South Korea 5-0 but North Korea is a different story. It will be a good match. Spain, North Korea and USA are probably best three teams coming into the tournament. The other semi final is Spain vs England. Spain beat England 4-1 in the Euros final earlier this year.

Good god. I had no clue they were even allowed to play international sports. I saw Korea and thought they were the same.

North Korea has won the women's U17 twice (USA never has) and the U20s three times (same as USA). They quickly fall off after these age groups.

We beat South Korea in the group.

North Korea has been smoking it's opponents so far this tournament. This will be a tough game for sure. They ran circles around England in game 3.

The semifinal teams are all from Group B and C so that should tell you who the strongest groups were.

Ended up with a bronze after beating England 3-0. North Korea edged Spain in penalties for the gold.

With 4 goals and 3 assists Kennedy received the silver boot and Evan received the Golden Gloves.

Is it because their players defect during international tournaments?

How would anyone really know that the North Koreans are U17? Maybe this is a possible reason for their youth success.

The North Koreans had a big doping scandal in the 2010s and there has always been questions about the true ages of their younger groups. I do think they made the quarterfinals of a world cup one year in the early 2000s.

They have also identified all their soccer players at a young age and work with them continually. In the USA, we put a bunch of talented kids together and send them to a couple weeks trainings and throw them out there. For example, in this year's U-17 USA World Cup Roster only 7 of them were on the team at the U-15 CONCACAFs and even between the U-17 CONCACAFS and World Cup, 7 of the 21 players were swapped out. Between some being in the pros, college, and then high school, the training camps leading up to the World Cup continually had new faces. The USA team basically had a weeks worth of training camp together as a full squad to prepare for the World Cup. Whereas the NK team has been training together for this one event for years.
