As far as the scheduling, I suspect Coach G. wanted to play UCONN on the road and was able to schedule a conference champ, CCSU, as a nearby potential opponent. Given you are going all the way to New England for a match, you may as well schedule a second game.

Prolly cuz we play UConn on Sunday and needed to fill out the schedule with a random game. Would've liked to see us play Syracuse with Nicky Thrasher as the head coach there though.
