That's a torn ligament, no?

Definitely looked like it.

That he could walk off gives hope it's a minor tear.

Obviously we're all biased here, but where are y'all on the Trossard 2nd yellow? To me, that is a yellow 8/10 times in the normal course of the game, so I was fine with that. At the half, the NBC show people were distraught about the card.

To me, Silva is sitting there under the ball in position, and Trossard has no intent for the ball and goes in with complete malice to knock Silva down. That's a yellow in most other games. I get that it's harsh that he's sent off because of it, but he got two legit yellow cards in my opinion.

They were distraught because it wasn't given for the foul, but for kicking the ball away. Actually in hindsight they were saying it was for the foul. Funny that we're at a point that where commentators and everyone else have no idea what the card was for

Oh ok, yeah he obliterates the ball after the whistle and it's already over the added time, so I can see why it was given there. Nobody had that information at the time, because that's not how the studio show talked about it at all.

I think his challenge on Silva was still worthy of a yellow. He wasn't trying to play the ball and it he clatters in to him knowing he's fouling him.

Trossard seemed to not fully realize the ball was dead and was trying to clear it (knowing the halftime whistle was surely about to blow.) You can see Kyle Walker, in particular, is also still playing and getting ready to kick the ball, too.

Alas, I don't mean to argue in the City thread. Looks like it's going to be quite the season again.

Yeah seeing it again and especially that second angle, that foul is just worthy of a yellow by itself. It's so reckless.

Ya he's not even going for the ball.

For me the foul was borderline reckless. Then when he kicks the ball away, Oliver looked at him like "WTF dude?" He's just bailed Trossard out on the foul and then he goes and kicks the ball away in a league that's making a point about that. Trossard didn't leave Oliver a whole lot of wiggle room. Oliver was pretty disgusted with Trossard.

I will say that I don't think Oliver had a good game. The blatant foul at 0:10 by Havertz and then the return bull in a china shop move by Haaland at 3' both could have been moments to deal out some plastic. The first Arsenal goal was really bad free kick management and the second goal was a major league pick on Ederson. It happens lot and doesn't get called much but it's a foul. It's really hard to see from out front.

He also let Arteta get away with delaying a restart by holding onto a ball and turning his back a bit late. He does that a lot and gets away with it. When Pep kicked his chair he could have gotten one. If that's Jose Mourinho back in the day he's getting sent to the stands.

It was officiated terribly and it started with the first kick of the game, as you pointed out. Both of Arsenal's goals were extremely controversial, to put it kindly.

Looks like torn ACL for Rodri.

Going to tough to get the same productivity at that spot this year.

So odd. There musty have been stuff going on all game to prompt that. Also funny that nothing is going to come of it. Doesn't help the narrative that we are the protected club lol.

Oh ya. They were yapping and chippy all game.

Strange lineup today with both Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker in the 11. The lineup looks really uninspiring with Rodri and De Bruyne out and no Foden or Savinho starting.

Didn't watch but it looks like Pep has some lineup figuring out to do.

I watched and it was tough. This year will have to be his best coaching job yet. Still could have won the game if Walker wasn't in terrible positioning to hold Gordon onside on the penalty call. Even the penalty call on Ederson was pretty iffy.

I think we saw the first signs of a team that won't win the cup this year. Just not good enough without Rodri and KDB.

Going to have to move my office to the living room tomorrow and set up a 2nd TV. Stros on one and City on the other.

Ortega in goal. We better keep it on their side of the pitch.

A good step in the right direction. Hopefully more BS is exposed for FFP and why it's unfair and should be done away with.

Just got to watch the highlights. Seems like Nunes had a really good game. Also drew and took a penalty which was taken really well. Blasted it. Hopefully that game and goal gives him confidence moving forward. We'll need him this season.

I didn't expect it, but I think it's the right choice.

Amusingly Vini Jr. expected it and thinks it's the wrong choice.

With that lineup ,it was pretty obvious Pep would rather not bother with the Carabao.
