Keeping it mixed up…some ideas for the unexpected drill just to keep them engaged and on their toes, look at a list like those.

Of course: aerobics matter so make sure you do some running as a team so you can provide guidance to the parents. I know they're kids, but setting expectations for longer term success helps kids stay fit.

OP Update: We had our last practice of the season tonight. The team got better as the season went along and the girls all seemed to have fun. We turned into a pretty good defensive squad, only giving up 8 goals. Offense needed some work until this past week when we won 9-0 with my daughter and two other girls each scoring a hat trick.

I tried to keep the girls moving as much as possible through out practice. Some drills were hits, others didn't really take, but that's okay. Staying in position on the field was a challenge, I think partially bc I played everyone at every position, so they never got used to where a specific player belonged. That's okay, I wanted this year to be a learning year for everyone.

Hopefully the rain holds off and we can close out the season on Saturday with a win to get to 4-2-2 (currently 3-2-2 on the year).

Final update of the season: The girls finished up the season with a 3 game tournament on Saturday. We were down a few girls, so we only had one sub for the first two games. We played poorly and the other team was much more aggressive in our first game, so we lost 3-0. Second game, we gave good effort, but came up just short 4-3. For the final game of the day and the season, we were down to 7 girls (no subs) and the girls were worn out from a long day. But, they surprised me and got off to a good, aggressive start and my daughter scored a goal midway through the first half to put us up 1-0. In the second half, we held on for dear life, playing 1 forward and 5 defenders, keeping everything out of the box. My one forward had some great runs and almost put a few in, but we could never get that second goal. The girls gave it everything they had and we gutted out a 1-0 victory! We were all excited and it was a great way to end a fun season. Thanks for the advice, encouragement, and jokes along the way!
