Scholarship limit increased from 14 to 28. Interested to see how this impacts roster building.

What do you mean by that?

Just wondering if we will take advantage of the full amount. My understanding is that soccer players typically got a bunch of partial scholarships. Now a full roster can be built with bigger scholarship offers.

Instead of having partial and academic scholarships they will have 28 full rides. This will be interesting to see how it affects the d2 D3.

D3 has no athletic scholarships. It's academic money only.

It's also a roster limit. The roster limit is mandatory for Power 4 schools. The scholarship number is a maximum allowed and not requirement. Non Power 4 D1 conferences/schools can opt out of these rules if they don't want to be a part of the revenue sharing.

Here's a good breakdown of the settlement information:

I would imagine more full rides at the D1 and D2 levels, while maintaining some partial scholarships would mean kids at D3 level will have opportunities they wouldn't have before. Also, with the xfer portal they have the chance to prove themselves at a lower level

44 soccer programs had more than 35 players on their roster last year. Many of those have incoming freshman/transfers that will keep their rosters at the same size for 2024. So between now and 2025, just those programs will have to reduce their roster size by 7+ players, most programs will have reduce by some smaller amount. The trickle down will reduce the overall number of opportunities for soccer players.

Maybe I'm confused...They are doubling available scholarships but lowering total roster size?

I always get confused when I'm reffing D3 games and there are 35 players on the bench with 11 on the field. I'm calculating in my brain that nobody is getting any athletic scholarship money and some of these D3 schools are damn expensive (in the $50k/year range). How in the heck are 50 kids affording to go to college and watch others play soccer while you sit on the bench.

Yeah, my little bro got paid to attend a D3 and play soccer - academic scholarship and a cake student worker job.
