Texas A&M returns to action on Sunday in their first roadtrip. Aggie soccer makes the short trek up to Fort Worth to face TCU on Sunday at 7PM. This game is only available with an ESPN+ subscription (or by attending the game in person). You can follow the audio live on the 12thman app (oops it crashed) or on 97.3 at radioaggieland.com
After a 14-5-5 and a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2022, TCU is off to a rough start for their 2023 season. The Horned Frogs are 1-2-1 on the season and are having trouble find scoring opportunities. They're doing well to their opponents shots and their goalkeeper just set the career record at TCU for shutouts. Through their four games, TCU has only scored 1 goal, while allowing just 3.
They found their lone win and lone goal in the opener against SMU, registering a 1-0 final.
Next, they played #2 Florida State - notable as a common opponent with A&M. In fact, A&M and TCU are the only 2 teams that FSU has played thus far. Despite having the edge in shots, TCU lost that one 0-2 (A&M lost 1-2). That game was a foul fest with 32 total fouls and 5 yellow cards.
TCU's lone road game came at #6 Penn State. It was a narrow 0-1 loss. 8(!) total yellow cards were awarded in that one. The stats were fairly even, but TCU couldn't find the equalizer.
On Thursday, TCU dominated the stats against UAB, outshooting them 18-3. But again, they couldn't finish their opportunities and drew 0-0.
Watching the Aggies offense setup opportunities, but unable to knock them down gave me some confidence initially, like the proverbial dam was going to break at some point. TCU fans have to feel the same way as they've matched well with highly ranked teams, but just can't get on the board.
TCU has proven they have a very capable defense though. So, if they're able to sneak a goal in (or are gifted a goal), a 1-0 score line could hold.
