Aggie Soccer continues limping through conference play as they head to Starkville to face Mississippi State tonight at 6PM. Mississippi State is a welcome opponent as they are the SEC's favorite punching bag.
I love Mississippi State because of their remarkably awful soccer history. Every conference needs a doormat and the Bulldogs have served that purpose since the program's inception in 1995.
Here are some fun facts for you in that regard:
Texas A&M is 71-25-7 in SEC play since joining the conference. Mississippi State is 49-192-26. That's right, A&M has more SEC Conference wins than Mississippi State despite playing 17 fewer seasons in the conference. In fact, it only took Texas A&M 57 SEC games to surpass Mississippi State's conference win total. A&M passed Mississippi State in SEC conference wins on October 23, 2016. That win actually broke a 6 game A&M winless streak (the longest in Aggie history).
Mississippi State has only made the SEC tournament 4 times, going 0-4.
2018 was a landmark year. Mississippi State somehow snuck their way into their first ever NCAA Tournament, promptly losing to Lipscomb in the first round.
Naturally, Mississippi State has a losing record to every conference foe, though they're hanging close with Mizzou at 3-4-2. They have the most wins against Alabama (8-14-4).
Texas A&M is the only conference foe that Mississippi State has never beat (or tied for that matter). The Bulldogs are 0-9 against the Aggies.
Mississippi State had been on a run of not-as-terrible-as-usual seasons, but they're back at bad this season. Overall, the Bulldogs are 3-7-3. They are 1-5-1 in conference. That lone conference win was 1-0 against Kentucky.
MSU has been outscored 14-10 this season and 10-5 in conference play. Mississippi State's leading scorer has a whopping 2 goals on the season.
Mississippi State has been shutout 5 times and they have 4 shutouts this season. All three MSU wins have come via shutout.
A&M will score and win this game and I will update the sad spreadsheet I have about Mississippi State's miserable performances. If they don't, I will boycott the season and refuse to attend another Aggie Soccer game for the remainder of the season.
