Regardless of the debate, that goal was prob the most athletic goal of the cup. Other goals with prettier technique, but what he did was impressive. A second too late, he misses. He snatched it away and managed to direct it by a leaping foot in the air.

It always amazes me when they blast shots 20 yards over the goal. Like that's not even close bro.

Ha, I have been around here for a long time, off and on, including the soccer board time to time.

No excuse for that behavior. I assume the mods will address.

If that goal is the most controversial moment in the cup, then we will probably witnessed one of the cleanest tournaments in history. I really feel like the best two teams are standing and nobody has cheated their way in. Same with the semis, everyone truely deserved to be there. I really think VAR, is to thank. No floppy penalties that define the entire tournament!

In my opinion, when you leave your feet for a diving header for a ball that low, the laws of the game no longer protect you.

It's a somewhat close call, but the situation was resolved correctly imo

Because this board is so civil, I dont think mods even come here, thankfully. Pat shouldn't have posted that but we'll move on. However I do want to point out that Pat didnt appreciate when Pickford talked **** to the Croatian player and said he wants his players to play with more respect or something like that.

Soccer board mod:

Ironically enough if anyone want to feel aggrieved over a "dangerous" play that wasn't called its Mandzucic. When Pickford made that challenge in close he came out and studs exposed raked them into Mandzucic's thigh. If that happens anywhere else on the field that's straight serious foul play and Pickford is gone. Because he's playing with gloves he's allowed to commit murder. And then after that he stands over him and taunts him.

I would say you are no longer subject to dangerous play. However you are still protected by the LOTG. If fouled (for example if the other player kicks you in the head) that's still a foul. But PIADM is off the table.

I was really hoping that Mandzucic would stand over Pickford after he scored. Henderson or someone else would have cleaned his clock for it, but it was called for after the earlier incident IMO.

I'm pretty sure they were lenient during the game. They knew not to mess up the juju.

Reffed for 18 years, including national level youth games.

I had dangerous play on it, with the goal standing on advantage.

It was a great play and incredible goal - and I'm a England fan.

But that ref was f/cking horrible.
