I can't think of any home and away series in any competition that comes even remotely close to that overall result. The "weaker" team won 7-0...including a 5-0 away from home.

I'm somewhat of a mls newb. Can someone explain how the two legs of the rounds go and the away goal stuff? For deciding who advances, does the road team get a goal added to their total?

You're probably just talking about the artificial playing surface, but the game had to be delayed 30 minutes at the start so they could properly repaint the penalty boxes to the correct dimensions.

(Insert easy joke about the metric system here.)

Think I figured it out. The away goal rule only comes into play of the overall score is tied at the end of both games.

Seems like it brings some interesting strategy into play. Is it considered to generally give an advantage to the first away team or the second away team?

So those 2 goals are huge for a very specific reason. Right now Montreal has a +1 goal differential. If Toronto were to say, win 2-1 at home. They would be tied on goal differential, but Toronto would have 2 away goals, which is the 2nd decider.

So at Toronto.

Any win by Montreal and they advance. A tie and they advance.

If Toronto wins 1-0 or 2-1, then Toronto advances.

If its 3-2, then they go to Extra Time, which I think is 2 15 minutes halves.


So generally speaking, you have the advantage playing at home in the 2nd game.

MLS playoffs are fun

Good win for Seattle last night, but it's going to be a really tough away leg for them. Need to score early, same for Montreal. Hoping the Impact can win so Seattle can host the potential final.

61,000 people showed up to watch paint dry and then see 5 goals scored. Toronto looked absolutely horrible most of the game so for them to come back and make it 3-2 going back to Toronto is huge.

Sounders win 1-0! 3-1 agg. Because of the grey cup today, the Canadian conference finals aren't until Wednesday
