How would you sell a Star Trek collection?

My Aunt has decided to downsize soon and asked me to try to help her figure out how to sell her ridiculously large collection of Star Trek memorabilia, books, toys, commemorative plates and glasses, trading cards, magazines, etc. Much of it is unopened or in original packaging and dates from the mid 70s to probably 2018 or so.

What would you do with something like that? Anyone know of a consignment place that would be good for something like this?

She is located in Allen if that is helpful info. Thanks in advance for any advice or tips.

I've consigned a book collection before but that was for a broader range of literature. This seems more complicated than that for some reason.

Will cross post to the Nerdery as well.

well.... there's a place in the college station mall... I think its 'Lyttles comix and games'... they buy... and you're done..

but they'll probably won't give you as much as you want...

or.. you can sell individually, one piece at a time... on ebay... very slow.. time consuming... and you might not get as much as you want...

IF its an A+ collection.... you can find a REAL auction house and they can sell it kinda around what you want but they tack on 20% and then they charge the buyer 20% over the selling price...

but im not talking like your home town neighborhood auctioneer.. IM talking like a real auction house.. Not as big as CHRISTIES or Sothebys or Bohnams... but you get the idea...

but where are you? There's a big store in houston that could buy... off 159...

email me at darrin at avalonweddingsbcs dot com if you need more help...

I collect antique cameras and do a LOT of auctions all over the world to get bits for my collection..

Facebook marketplace in the metroplex may net you quite a bit more than ebay by the time ebay tacks on its fees and you pay for shipping. I've seen people move the bulk of a collection that way and then with the remainder go to ebay for the larger market exposure.

If the collection is large and top notch an auction house that has a large collector following is going to have the best chance at not having to deal with selling pieces individually yourself.

eBay selling piece by piece will get you the most money. It will also take the most time. You'll reach more people than an auction will.
I sold a star wars collection of several thousand pieces on eBay. Got over $13,000 for it all. Shipped stuff to every continent and a couple dozen countries. It was a full time job for a couple months.

I thought I'd post an update and see what people thought after knowing some specifics. Still waiting on others but here's a quick summary and I will include some example pictures as well:

* several different sets of collectible plates
* several different sets of collectible glasses and mugs
* several sets of collectors cards "Legends of Star Trek" in protective sheets and binders
* quite a few different unopened toys
* several sets of Star Trek themed playing cards and uno cards
* several sets of collectible cups or toys from different fast food restaurants when they had promotions
* several framed pictures of various things from the Star Trek movies and shows
* magazines and maybe some comics
* a few bookcases worth of hardback and paperback Star Trek books (which she has been itemizing)
