Hey, I admitted I was biased, but I haven't talked to Briles in years.

Any coaching hire we make is going to be a gamble. When we hired Fran, he was the hottest coach in America, and look how that turned out. I can't guarantee that Briles will be successful here, but he has as much of a chance as any other name being thrown out there.

Most Tech fans acknowlege that Briles will be a top candidate if and when the Tech job opens up.

Most of those same fans would like him to prove that he can win without Kevin Kolb before an offer is thrown at him.

Art would be a great hire.
I personally watched him build Stephenville into the powerhouse it remains today. Before Art arrived they won 10 games in a DECADE not a year.
As far as Arts record at UH think about the level of opponent he goes against with the odds stacked against him.
He has gone to OU, to Miami, to Alabama etc.
He backs down from NO ONE . EVER.
I really believe he could bring his team in here and beat us right now. The man has the respect of the Texas high school coaches.
He was elected president of the THSCA while at Stephenville. And yes it would go along way to help with recruits. He is one of thiers much like Billy G was to basketball.
Boy it must have been a real dumbass at Utah that went to a MAC conference team awhile back and hired Urban Meyer. Did anybody say WOW to that one.

Art is a winner plain and simple. He has proven he can win every where he goes. He would be a GREAT hire should it unfold.
Everybody is looking for that turnaround coach who can win. What was Houstons record BEFORE Art arrived?

If we hire Art Briles the 12th Man Dies. Couldn't be a more boring, uninspiring coach on our radar. That said I'll still show up at games, Basketball ones...

UH 56 Rice 48. Thats all you need to know. Rice is a notch above a high school team. Briles would be in way over his head.

Yeah, that Conference USA opposition is pretty steep.

I think it's pretty telling that the only accomplishments that people are able to drum up are ones with his teams at Stephenville HIGH SCHOOL! Sorry, but we are not North Texas. We can do better than hiring someone based on a 5A body of work.

He won Conference USA last year. He is leading his division this year.

UH played Oregon and Alabama at their house and showed up.

went to the utep/uh game this past saturday, and sat right behind the uh bench. now, while i realize that most team's players are gonna talk a little bit of trash to the opposing fans, i was amazed at the group of thugs he has assembled on his football team. i can't believe how many punks are on that team, and the way they acted the entire game. i would be embarrassed to have them represent my school, and pray that we don't hire him.

besides, uh has a terrible defense - time to turn the page and bring back the wrecking crew...

Honestly, no. I've only watched a few minutes of a few games.

I just don't see the man in maroon. We need the Wrecking Crew back, Briles is offensive minded. I don't see how we can fit.

They are still 4A. With a borderline 3A enrollmnet. AT one point during one of the state runs they could have dipped to 3A.

I still find it curious that the only two on this thread pimping briles, don't have Ag Tags. Like I said before, I don't know an Aggie that wants briles as a coach.

Byrne hiring Briles would be like Fran hiring Darnell.

Ive been an Aggie fan all of my near 50 years. I didnt get to finish at A&M but my son just did last May. WHOOOOOOOOOP.
My family has history to 1922 at A&M. My son would make 4th generation A&M. No I dont have an AG Tag and it is something even late in life I would hope for and may do some day.
Life throws things at you and you have to change your plans.
If Im the only AG plugging for Art so be it.Like I said I watched what the man can do. He is a winner.

Think about this . When tu hired Mac III he wasnt thier first choice either. The thinking was Gary Barnett.Barnett had worked miracles at Northwestern. It was almost a done deal. Whether you like Mac or not you cant deny the results. The hire was by committee also and alot of names came up. In the end if its not the BIG name ( remember when we got Fran) dont be dissappointed or suprised. This time we need to careful and consider the fit with the school and other issues.

this is so effing rediculous...don't even know where to start. The argument supporting Briles includes what he did at a 4A high school!! Thats the the guy you want to be the next head coach of the FIGHTIN TEXAS AGGIES!!!! Are you freaking kidding me!!! No wonder Texas fans laugh at us.

Like I said before, our next coach has to come from a respected coaching tree. He has to have coached under well respected, big time names. This guy is a high school coach and simply would be taken advantage of by every other coach in the big 12.

We can't stand another five years of mediocrity, it would absolutely kill us. I sure hope that our Houston area donors aren't this stupid.

art briles is not the right man for the job. you briles' supporters need to quit sniffin his jock and get over that fact before your loyalty to the man drags our program into an abyss that makes the current climate feel like disneyland.

Mack had tremendous success at UNC, a perennial loser in a land that loves basketball. He was there for 10 years and had 3 10-win seasons. Don't even think about comparing that to Art Briles' single 10-win season against Conference USA competition located in one of the best recruiting bases in the nation.

I couldn't care less if the HS coaches have a man-crush on our football coach. In the end, if you win, the best want to play for you. I seriously doubt Todd Dodge is getting any help from his HS friends when he's in the midst of a 1-win season.

Consider that Mack Brown and Bob Stoops were Texas outsiders with no ties to Texas HS coaching. They are winners and it didn't take long for athletes to see it. Now we wonder if we will ever be able to pry them loose from their spots atop Texas recruiting. Winning takes care of everything and recruits take notice. Bringing in a Tuberville or Tedford would bring us more credibility than Briles ever could.
