Are you rednecks kidding me? You actually want this mf'er. His record is the same as Fran and he is outrecruited by six other schools in CUSA. He dropped games to ULALA and nearly Rice at home. His offense is a gimmick and his defense is worse than ours. If this is the best Byrne can do than I do not want to be associated with A&M, athletically or academically.

I can see the headlines now.....Miles to Michigan....Tubberville to LSU....Pelini to Nebraska and A&M hires Briles whos experience before UH was Stephenville High School.

Please write a professional email to $Bill letting him know that fact. I did a few weeks ago as I'm very afraid he's on the 2nd tier radar.

His record is mediocre (in a mediocre conference) and usually has horrible defensive teams.

We need a new coach to captivate and reinvigorate Aggies who support the program and I expect $Bill to do the right thing.

No more season tickets for me.

If Art Briles is hired I would join, not start, a class-action suit against A&M suing for any money I've ever given to the AD.

Guys, relax. There are no Aggies that want Briles as our coach. It won't happen, and you can bet Byrne is even putting out feelers in that direction.

Aside from him being the suck as a coach, he doesn't fit Byrne's profile for a candidate.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Briles himself (or his agent) spreading these rumors.

I rarely post here but I just couldn't pass up this topic as I am amazed at the level of disrsepect shown to Briles on here. For the record I am biased as I would love to see Briles become A&M's coach, but I also realize there may be better coaching candidates out there.

Briles is a guy that became head coach at a very young age at a high school where 0 - 10 records were not unusual. When he left 11 years later, he had 4 state championships. After learning the college ropes at Tech, he took over at UH, another program where 0 -fer seasons are not unusual. In the same amount of time that Fran has been here he won his conference championship, and has been very competitive against BCS schools. He also developed a QB (that A&M passed on in recruiting) into the third QB taken in last year's draft, something no A&M coach has ever done to my knowledge. This year was supposed to be a rebuilding year at UH, but they are presently ranked higher than A&M, who was supposed to compete for the Big 12. And he has done all of this at a school that, I think we can all agree, has significantly less money, fan support, facilities, etc., than A&M.

I know he has yet to coach at the BCS level, but at some point, coaching is coaching, just ask Ohio State, who hired a local guy from some nowhere college who so far has worked out pretty well.

Again, I acknowledge that there may be better coaches out there, but just considere this: In a few years, after Tech loses Leach to another school, drunk driving accident, or pirate adventure, guess who their first choice as new HC will be? And when that happens, guess who will continue to kick A&M's tail with inferior recruits and facilities, as Tech has done for the last 20 years?

Uhmmmm, his multiple National Championships at that level might have been a little indicator that he was a better than average coach.

Tressel spent 15 seasons as the head coach at Youngstown State, where he also served for a period of time as Athletics Director, Tressel was one of the most respected Division I-AA coaches in America. His years there were ripe with success, the Penguins winning four national championships and qualifying for the Division I-AA playoffs a remarkable 10 times. During his stay at YSU, he compiled an overall record of 135-57-2 and was a four-time pick as the Division I-AA National Coach of the Year.

Maybe we put a call into Briles when he reaches this level.

No, I just want everyone to remember what they said about him when that happens.

Jim Tressel wasn't even a D1 coach when Ohio State hired him.
