The "building" in the background is the original first deck, west side, of Kyle Field. The practice field they are playing on is laid out on the baseball field, also known as Kyle Field.

I cannot account for the different jersey styles. More than likely there were "home" and "away" styles even in 1939. And there is a possibility that new jerseys were purchased for the Sugar Bowl game.

Even so, a 41, 42 jersey is cool, but they should label it correctly.

White top on the jersey does not extend just over the shoulder area at the one worn in the player pic.

The main question is how the 39 medal ended up in this group of memorabilia.

Aero, that roster includes at the end without a number Bill "Jitterbug " Henderson who did not play that season - no doubt a redshirt as he lettered in 40,41 and 42. He is in the 39 team picture even so. Maybe that picture was taken at the beginning of the season before anyone knew he would be redshirted.

Since Henry Hauser was 62 in 1939, I do not think this is a legit jersey from 1939

I've tried to contact the actual auction house for clarification on these issues, and have yet to get a response. I was also going to make a bid for this item, but with the questions surrounding exactly what season it is from, I cannot justify bidding for it. The sad thing is most likely the winner of this auction will believe that this is a 1939 jersey and pay more than he/she should. Either someone other than Weldom Maple wore the jersey, or Weldom Maple wore the jersey but not in 1939, or neither is true. In any case, the auction house has provided incorrect information to the public.

Maybe the auction company got the name wrong, and it is actually Hauser in the picture. Or maybe it was Einhorn?

Notice the description was for a '1939 era' game worn jersey. That doesn't mean it was worn in 1939. I bid on it anyway - cool find!
