so let me get this straight...

#5 Michigan loses by 2 at home to the defending 1-AA champs and they drop out of the rankings completely.

#1/#2 USC loses by 1 at home to a 41 point underdog that would lose to app state 4 times out of 5, and they drop to number 7/10?

How does that work? even ESPN is saying the stanford game was the biggest upset of the year...so why is the punishment for USC so much less???

Same can be said for OU and Wisconsin. A top 5 OU team loses to Colorado and drops to 10, but a top 5 wisconsin team loses to Illinois and drops out of the top 10.

Rankings suck

i've wondered the same thing myself...

i guess because it must have been a "fluke loss" and we are to just look the other way.

Yet I don't know if that is as weird as a 2 loss texas team being ahaed of a 1 loss k state team who beat texas.

the sheer magnitude of a top 5 team going down to a 1-AA shocked voters. I can guarantee that most saw that game and didn't even think last years 1-AA champions, but just another 1-AA

My guess is that there have been so many upsets this year that people have become desensitized to it since the Michigan game.

Not to mention the media put such a large stake in USC being #1 pre-season that they now are having a hard time not putting them as the #1, 1 loss team.

I'm not defending USC being in the top 10, but to compare it Michigan's loss to a team that has 7 wins against D-1A schools in it's history is a stretch. Appalachian State's other 6 wins came against horrible Wake Forest teams.

sh** happens, even to great teams.

USC is still one of the 10 best teams in the nation. they had one of those days. happens.

I know what you mean. They are still in the top 10?

This is why I actually like the computer's input into the formula. Computers aren't biased.

How many of these stupid threads are there going to be?

And Stanford WOULD beat App State, sorry.

I've already posted twice, Stanford's recruiting classes over the last 5 years are top 40-50 which is on par with Tech & Wisconsin. They have a GREAT young coach in Harbaugh & will win 5-6 games this year. They have played 4 ranked teams so far this year & they beat San Jose State worse than K State did. Their entire offense are 3 & 4 star recruits. They had a terrible coach the last few years, but are a legit program.

Also, USC outgained them by 230 yards, but lost due to 5 TO's. Michigan WON the turnover battle, but still lost.

I don't give a damn what the point spread says, but a 1AA team winning the 1st game EVER over a ranked 1A team is a MUCH bigger upset than a lower tier conference team beating a top team.

Since the winning team's coach(Jimmy H.) stated that USC was the best team EVER that's a good enough excuse for the media to keep them up there.

Or maybe because USC has only lost ONE non-conference game in over 5 years & that was in the MNC to a once in a decade performance.

Maybe because they haven't lost a SINGLE game by more than 1 score in close to SEVEN years.

Yeah, they certainly have no reason for being in the top 10

The comedy is gold on here just about every day

There's no real rhyme or reason to it, folks. The polls are just how someone feels on a given day. Do you think that most of the voters actually think it all through? Nope, they just bubble in a little ballot based on their hunch. It's not fair, sure, but that's reality in college football.

(IMO) Think of how the rankings work - you're putting what you think are the top 25 teams in the nation in order. OU and USC are still top 10 because they're still two of the best teams in the nation. Wisconsin isn't because they suck balls. They barely escaped several games and finally lost to Illinois.

Michigan's loss, while in retrospect was a tad of an overreaction, was proven true by losing the next game to an unranked Oregon team. So I think, in time, they deserved what they'd gotten immediately.

Complaining about USC's ranking is serious ***** envy

They've earned the benefit of the doubt and after Stanford gets the last Pac 10 bowl bid & USC destroys another team in a BCS bowl, this game will fade.

App State over Michigan will be talked about for the next few years however
