Saw a few cubby fans wearing shirts with "Saw 'Em Off" on it, under a pic of Reveille with legs chopped off.

Why didn't that raise a furor?

Because those shirts are funny

I DON'T think those are funny.

BTW, that shirt originated with the sips.

How do you feel about shirts and stickers w/ the longhorn's horns cut off?

the saw'em off thing is stupid with the horns being sawed off and the legs being sawed off. nothing outrageous but just stupid.

with the vick'em, that is crude.

Since I grew up in ranching country, animals being dehorned was pretty routine and unless the situation was strange, non fatal.

Even neutering like Bevo is routine.

And the ultimate destination for most cattle is the dinner plate--meaning they will kill them and they are NOT pets.

On the other hand, dogs are companion animals and for many of us members of our families.

I find NO humor football related or not in anything that depicts mutilation and death of pets.

You obviously don't know much about animals. You cut the legs off a dog or hang them and they will most likely die.

You cut the horns off of a steer and nothing happens other than they have shorter horns that are easier to manage. Sawing off horns is like trimming finger nails.

Cutting off a dogs legs or hanging them is animal cruelty.

So please stop the bullsh*t.

To me, the difference between a longhorn and a dog is night and day. One is livestock, the other is a domesticated animal that is completely dependent on people for its care.

When the Vick thing was at it's peak, you had alot of "inner city" callers to local sportstalk radio basically asking the same question - "what is the difference between a hunter killing a deer and Michael Vick killing a dog?".
We shouldn't have to justify that idiocy with an answer, and I don't see the longhorn/Reveille thing being that much different.

To me, a head of livestock is essentially the same as deer/elk/whatever. And I don't think the horn fans view it much differently considering most of them were either oblivious or apathetic when the latest Bevo was retired/put down last year.

Contrast that with a dog, and the ceremony we all go through each time there is a new Rev, or one passes, etc.

There is something inherently troubling about a dog in a noose, or with its legs cut off. At least I think there should be.

Originated with sips.

Low class.

Animal Cruelty (Non-Game Animals/Harvesting of meat of an animal) is crap.

Dehorning cattle is done routinely to prevent injury to people and other cattle. As such, sawing bevo's horns off has a practical basis while symbolically expressing A&M's desire to reduce bevo from a formidable icon to a common domesticated animal. Mutilating a family pet is just sick, and may be a symptom of "those people" in Austin and Waco's obsession with trying to "one up" A&M by copying our original actions. And failing dismally once again.

Surprised they didn't have a skinned cat on their t-shirts. It's Baylor you know.

Y'all need to loosen up a little. I'm sickened by the actions of vick but getting upset by these shirts is a little ridiculous.

God, they're just shirts...who cares. I think the texas one is slightly clever...at least it makes sense and applies to the rivalry. The tech one is just retarded and I would be embarrassed for anyone who actually wears it.

It's a T-shirt! I don't think there are too many Baylor fans running around trying to cut our precious mascots legs off.

Lighten up a little bit.

Which is why I'm not surprised to see little buddy baylor displaying them.

The vick shirts are immature and unnecessary, but the Rev 'saw em off' shirts are kind of funny because they're so stupid...and wouldn't exist if not for our idea of 'saw em off'.

I think the baylor "Saw'em Off" shirts are funny in a different way. They can't be original.

It is just a T-shirt. There is no cruelty to animals involved.

The sip "Saw Em Off" is a parody of our tradition, and funny because they're ridiculous - I doubt many UT students are running around Austin sawing off dog legs. I chuckled the first time I saw it - it's not the cleverest thing in the world, but it's not bad.

Michael Vick, on the other hand, DID torture and kill dogs for fun. The Tech shirts are referencing a real event - one that upset a lot of people - and that makes them tasteless and low-class, much like Tech itself.

It's like the difference between making a joke about killing someone in general, or joking about someone who was actually murdered.

OK, to those Aggies (and there are a lot) that seem to have a low tolerance to things like this.

Maybe sawing off the horns serves a real purpose. However, what do you then think of the shirts that say things to the like of BBQ Bevo or the old tradition of the outhouse on top of the Bonfire?

And spare me the fact that dogs are completely dependent on people. That's BS. The only reason you view it that way is the fact that people made them domesticated. You put a dog in the wild and it would survive on its own just fine. I'm not condoning Vick's actions... it was indeed despicable. But an animal still is an animal.

What about Jackie Sherrill and the bull. That brought him a lot of flack and that is something that's common to a lot of ranch and farm folks. Happens everyday.

Is branding livestock cruelty to animals?
spaceaggie1975
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Some think it is. PETA or one of those groups were going to show some city folk how cruel branding was. I understood it was because of the brucellosis program where they branded some on the jaw with a "B" if they were positive. Anyway, they took the young calf in an enclosed U-Haul trailer. It was a hot day. When they arrived the calf was in very bad shape. Understood they got fined for cruelty to an animal. Maybe Snoops.

im pretty sure we arent "sawing varsity's horns off" in an effort to help bevo have shorter horns and make him easier to manage.

I am 99% pro-Aggie and 1% anti-sip.

Therefore "Saw-em-off" anything has no place in my world - with the exception of the second strain of the War Hymn.
