In the opinion of the board, how much of the game is not about x's and o's? In other words, how much of a factor is momentum, confidence, morale, etc...?

How much impact do things like a coach not going for it on 4th and 1 on their home field early in a game on the opposing team's 30 yd line? Does that impact the offense's confidence (or the defense's confidence if you don't get it). How does it impact the crowd and the overall momentum of a game? What if we miss the FG attempt after not going for it?

What about calling a timeout while moving the ball down the field after gaining momentum to stall a drive? Or a penalty?

What does it do to morale when we give up a 3rd and 20?

How big of a factor does our 4-2-5 have on our home field advantage? Instead of being aggressive on defense, we play bend and don't break. Does that take the crowd out of the game?

How big is a sack?

My opinion, is that Fran doesn't consider the intangibles in his football decisions to the extent that most other coaches do. Is this because he didn't play himself?

Well the X's and O's are all that great to begin with so I'm not sure those really matter that much.

It's equivalent to having a 10 yard pass intercepted, something the opposing team will take all day.

IMO, x's and o's are always most important, but the other factors such as heart, and desire are things that help players execute to the fullest and on a consistant basis. You have to have both to be a good program.

USC and t.u. and michigan for example, lots of talent and great game plans and schemes, but when the players are down you see them struggle to regain control because they aren't used to playing like their life depends on it.

On the other hand, you can have a bunch of very competitive and driven athletes on a team but if they dont know what the hell they are doing, they will play like crap. (san diego chargers/ w exception to last nights game against denver)

The HC is responsible for all of it both on and off the field. This staff has done a pretty good job off the field (reference improving grad rates, not a lot of legal problems with the kids, etc.). The performance on the field has been underwhelming to say the least. I think less than 50% gameday decisions. Defensively the team is not even fundamentally very good. A good HS coaching staff takes care of that. I'm confused why the tackling was better last yr vs this yr considering most of the kids are the same.

The offensive systems installed seem incredibly simplistic. They have failed to diversify the arsenal to any reasonable degree. Plan A is the ZOne read option, there is no well practiced plan b. I saw signs of life in the 2nd half Saturday but then they reverted right back to the man after OSU pulled within one. It almost cost them the W.
