I thought it was kind of a boring story. I thought the Texas State Patrol got wind of it and stopped them before they ever got close to Waco.

Nope, I was there.

...ok no I wasn't. But one of my friends, he was there.

...ok no he wasn't. But you can imagine how cool it would have been if he were.

My dad was class of 60. He has been telling me that story for 30+ years.

Says the Texas National Guard stopped them at the Baylor city limits as they were on the train and loaded up.

At bonfire in 1995 I met a guy that was class of 26. I asked him if it were true that they loaded a howitzer on the train to Baylor and his reply was "The story is true but we loaded more than just one Howitzer on that train."

There is a reason the Corps didn't make a Corps trip to Baylor for almost 70 years.

yeah... there are exactly two things to do in Waco on Friday night... Jack and SH$T. Sure wish we still played TCU or SMU as Non-conference

I think it was one of bobby knight's ancestors that started this mess by grabbing the chair.

I thought the Texas Rangers stopped them by seperating the rails in the track.

The cannon part is NOT an urban legend. I've had family members (now deceased) that were there ...

Good Bull! Old Army!

If you refer to the north forty as anything other than t.u. or 'sips, you are not an AGGIE.

Raider ... If you are going to jump in to Texags conversations please do some research first.

No. An A&M student was fatally injured in a ruckus at the game. Some said he was hit by a bottle, some said by a club. His injury increased the emotion of the event.

The cannon incident is Urban Legend. There is no hard copy evidence that his actually happened and there are several newspaper accounts written at the time of the incident.

NEGATIVE ... NOT an urban legend. As was quite common in those days some of the details were surpressed in the news.

The cadet's name was Sessums. The Aggie Band struck up the National Anthem, hoping that it would bring the melee to a halt. Sessums was struck by a wooden folding chair and died.

fossil, You dumbass, that's why I asked the question. I was told by my brothers who are both aggies that they thought it was a Baylor student. Hence the question to make sure.

If you have done the research could you please post the story or the link. I would appreciate it.

If the rail car story was true.....

How did they get the rail car there? Did they take an actual train engine? How did they get a train engine and they knew how to drive it?

Now going by rail is not the same as going by road. They knew how to get there by rail? How did they make sure all the exchanges were lined up correctly? How did they know the lines were open and were not headed straight head-on into another train?

I think it is far more likely that they snuck a cannon onto the train (perhaps with the help of a few paid-off individuals) than stealing a train...
