For those wondering about Rox Covert Chevrolet. Enormous texas booster. Many vehicles for athletic and administrative personnel come from Covert Chevy.
When the Tom Penders grade scandal hit the texas basketball program, a low level assistant took the fall in an official capacity for the university. That guy was given a job at Covert as a sales executive with a salary and no commission pay or requirements. A personal favor of the university, unofficially of course. I saw him in his office taking a nap when I went with a friend to get a vehicle.
Bastrop is far enough out of Austin that it is "out of sight, out of mind" so to speak.
It is all in this article if you read between the lines.
http://media.www.dailytexanonline.com/media/storage/paper410/news/2002/08/14/News/Jury-Clears.Penders.Of.Defamation-499993.shtmlOran was perfectly fine taking his comfortable salary for not doing anything, but when the deposition was leaked from Axtell's trial, and Penders began to defame Oran, Oran took legal action and was eventually beaten in court.
What makes this story fishy is that Oran was at first seen as solely responsible in getting Tom Penders, the savior of UTs basketball program, fired from texas. Oran is seen in the Austin area and amongst texas longhorn alumni as public enemy number one. And he lands an $80,000 per year salaried job in 1998 at a well known longhorn booster's car dealership? Oil and water don't mix folks.
Rox Covert does what he is told in exchange for big time alumni perks, and if you think it stops with a fall guy in the basketball program, I have some great oceanfront property to sell you down around New Mexico/Arizona.
