Since his decision came down to us and OU, and we know OU has been cheating, what are the chances they made some illegal enticements to him?

Yeah, I know that they were a lot better than us in 03, 77-0, etc, but given the rumored Lexus deal he had going I don't think this is very far fetched.

Peterson's felon father was able to secure a job at a Oklahoma car dealership almost immediately after release. Tells me all I need to know. I'm glad we didn't arrange a deal like that. We aren't as untouchable as OU in terms of the NCAA.

Car dealerships are where the vast majority of NCAA infractions occur and various athletic departments take care of their own. It happened in College Station, it happened in Norman, and it happens in Bastrop at Rox Covert Chevrolet.

Especially the ones that pay cash under the table. Do you really believe his father was being paid regular wages for being a lot porter? Your program cheats. Just admit it PG.

I talked to AP's stepfather after the '04 game and his exact words were, "if Reggie would have been playin' as good as he played tonight last year ya'll would have had ya'll an Aggie."

Don't WE have to be good, or at least NEAR good before we start talking trash about OU not winning a national championship? Coach Fran, is that you? Like we would have won a national championship over the last 3 years with Peterson. We wouldn't have even won a conference championship! Over the last 3 years, OU minus Peterson is still > A&M. Sure, we would have been a LOT better with Peterson, but with I don't think that even Earl Campbell would have taken us all the way.

I think that adding Bob Stoops would make a lot bigger difference than any player.

So what. Even if OU got caught, the NCAA would just extend their probation...for a 2nd time. And they'd probably have to forfeit the wins from their 1900 season.

To PlanoGuy and other Sooners...

..Did OU really consider A&M a threat to getting Peterson's committment at any time during the process?

I am not trying to flame, but the only place I have heard that A&M was a legit threat was on this site.

That does not mean I am saying it is not true, but want Sooner's take on it.

I personally did not. I read Liucci's reports that he visited several times unofficially late in the game, but I didn't seem him picking A&M.

AP was a strong Aggie lean before the transition, having attended Aggie football camps and a great relationship with running backs coach Ken Rucker.

Peterson and McNeal in the same backfield would have been unstoppable.

Water under the bridge. We'll win in Norman this year.

As I said, other than clandestine reports on Aggie web sites, I did not hear A&M was a serious contender for Peterson.

That said, PHS is right...water under the bridge.

According to the longhorn recruiting guru (the Lucci of longhorns, don't know his name) Peterson's decision came down to t.u. and OU (A&M not even in picture) and he went to OU b/c of grades.

He said this on 610 early in the '06 season during one of their weekly chats they have with him (I think Lucci followed right after that segment).

From a source in Palestine (kid went to school with Peterson) he eliminated tu because of his doubts that he would stay eligible. tu had lost a 5* recruit and a 4* recruit from their 2002 class to grades and that got to Peterson. He made the trip to College Station a number of times after eliminating tu so I believe that the race at the end was between A&M and ou.

The only person I ever heard say it was NOT between OU and A&M was Ketchum. Surprise, surprise.

Supposably, Switzer went and visited his old man in Huntsville, that helped.

But it may be water under the bridge, but Peterson and McNeal in the backfield certainly would've helped Torbush's defense.

For those wondering about Rox Covert Chevrolet. Enormous texas booster. Many vehicles for athletic and administrative personnel come from Covert Chevy.

When the Tom Penders grade scandal hit the texas basketball program, a low level assistant took the fall in an official capacity for the university. That guy was given a job at Covert as a sales executive with a salary and no commission pay or requirements. A personal favor of the university, unofficially of course. I saw him in his office taking a nap when I went with a friend to get a vehicle.

Bastrop is far enough out of Austin that it is "out of sight, out of mind" so to speak.

It is all in this article if you read between the lines.

http://media.www.dailytexanonline.com/media/storage/paper410/news/2002/08/14/News/Jury-Clears.Penders.Of.Defamation-499993.shtml

Oran was perfectly fine taking his comfortable salary for not doing anything, but when the deposition was leaked from Axtell's trial, and Penders began to defame Oran, Oran took legal action and was eventually beaten in court.

What makes this story fishy is that Oran was at first seen as solely responsible in getting Tom Penders, the savior of UTs basketball program, fired from texas. Oran is seen in the Austin area and amongst texas longhorn alumni as public enemy number one. And he lands an $80,000 per year salaried job in 1998 at a well known longhorn booster's car dealership? Oil and water don't mix folks.

Rox Covert does what he is told in exchange for big time alumni perks, and if you think it stops with a fall guy in the basketball program, I have some great oceanfront property to sell you down around New Mexico/Arizona.

having a law school has its perks. As far as Peterson, cant really say he was going to be an aggie, but 3 or 4 of his friends from East Texas were hanging out in the parking lot with us after a game and every one of them was sure he was going to be an Aggie. They had come to the game with him and he was there as well acting like it was a done deal. It was a shocker to those of us there that he soon after committed to blowu. I dont mind the cheating and the kiniving BS so much, it just bothers me that certain schools get away with so much and others have to make up the difference on an unlevel playing field. Count me the optimust, but it will be nice to win it all without the cloud of criminal activity around our program. Just win.

How did we cheat to get AD? By getting him a Lexus...to drive for 6 weeks? By getting his dad a job in Norman...making $7/hr some 2 years after AD committed to OU?

Wow. You all are spot on as usual. Couldn't be the ass kicking we laid on you and UT in 2003, could it?

This is all i know, the security guard for my building is a guy named I. Brown. Petersons uncle and he played in the NFL. Mr. Brown told me that Adrian liked A&M and OU and decided on OU after Slocum was fired.

It wasn't Switzer, it was Stoops. He went to Huntsville the first day that coaches were allowed to visit rather than going to visit with AD's mom & stepfather. Stoops showing up caused such a disturbance that the warden refused to let any other coaches come visit.
