i know this video has been around for about 40 years but i havent seen it here. look at how fast these guys were. i am sorry if i offend some of the post break fdt guys but yall cant hold a candle to these guys. the guidon bearer is swinging that sick around like crazy and now all the guy does is spin to left, then right, then around the neck. i guess getting the piss beat out of you for every little mistake will make you perfect.

Awesome!

The hesitation step and ripple movements were brought to the FDT by former members of the Chaminade Guard Drill Team at Central Catholic HS in San Antonio.

Easy to see why the FDT was the National Champion Drill Team for many years.

It seems like the film is sped up. I don't think anyone can spin a stick/rifle that fast. They still can't touch the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team.

The FDT was used as the Marine drill team in the movie "A few Good Men."

Why do you think the FDT was used in a Few Good Men?

I'm sure that the FDT could be just as good if they had the same amount of time and quality men to choose from.

from wikipedia:

The Silent Drill at the film's beginning was not done by Marines. It is actually the Texas A&M University Fish Drill Team

Just to be clear...

The movie was filmed in the fall of 1991. fdt was not up to speed, so they selected the best from classes of 94, 93 and 92 to be in the movie.

Watching that gave me CHILLS!

I don't think it was sped up, you can watch the other candidates feet and see that appears appropriate.

For what it is worth, take it from an old Ag ('61), that film is not speeded up. The Fish Drill Team of the 50's and 60's was untouchable. They did it with 1-2 hours practice per day, 4-5 days per week in addition to all of their outfit and academic responsibilities. The Marine Drill Team is very good, but it is composed of post-basic training marines whose fulltime duty is the drill team with no other heavy load duties. That makes it very difficult to compare. And, yes, the drill in the movie,"A Few Good Men" was performed by volunteer former members of the Fish Drill Team, but not by the drill team itself.

I won't argue with that. I still think the film is sped up. Most films from that era are sped up. Look how fast he spins the guidon stick. If he's really doing that then he's a bad mofo!

The USMC did not like the content of the movie and how it portrayed the Corps. Therefore they withheld participation of the Silent Drill Team and the producers asked for and received the next best thing ...the Fightin Texas Aggie FDT (Former Student edition)

I remember being concerned that after many consecutive years of being national champs, the Class of '75 would be the ones to break the streak. What a fool I was.

Being a member of the FDT was the only thing worse than being a BQ drummer at that time.

Way to go fish Drill Team - helping make A&M the great school it is. Now if the men's athletic programs would kick it up a notch, we'll be crazy good.

the bq cadre from each outfit are usually as tough as ct cadre. there are just a bunch of other bqs that are weiners. one of my upperclassmen is a navy seal and was honerman of his class.

It's okay Uli - he's a jarhead troll. Besides, I'm talking early 70's when the hazing part for freshmen drummers was way past a concern for the bulls at the Trigon.

I'm tempted to say it's sped up because of how fast the people in the background are walking.

this year was our 60th anniversary and those guys still had it, was cool to watch. but to tell you the truth they were amazed by the class of '10 and what they do now.

Seeing a film of the FDT at my summer orientation was the decisive factor in me joining the corps. I loved FDT as a freshman. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen on Texags. This thread and all of the youtube clips should somehow be stored on this site for easy access. Thanks Uli.

Nothing impressed me more than the FDT. The Best of the Best. They worked very hard, and had everyone's respect. Seemed like the Gator's had one or two members each year in the late 60's. Glad to lean that BQ drummers were on a par, kenner. Not surprised. Fond memories.

Several of the FDT hounds of '91 (advisors) created the drill for the movie and taught and trained the 92, 93 and 94 FDT fighters. Yet, these omnipotent and omniscient leaders didn't get to go to D.C. for the filming.

Didn’t have any interest in the FDT, but…..

Head Advisor in ’74 was a guy who looked and sounded like Lee Marvin in the movie ‘The Dirty Dozen’. As a fish I was walking back from class in the Quad and I hear this deep gravely voice behind me yell, “Fish Jones!” I turn around, realize he’s talking to me and, of course, I ‘whip out’. Conversation goes like this:

Lee Marvin – You going out for Fish Drill Team!?
Me – No, Sir!
Lee Marvin – Yes you are! Be out there at four o’clock!
Me – Yes, Sir!

Great fish year experience.

Which reminds me to ask a question long on my mind; why the "strange looking" FDT crapper cord? Can you 'splain that Zone?

whoopidy-doo. Those idiots got shut down for several years because of hazing. Considering how much hazing gets overlooked in the corps and its fine organizations, they must have had the cattle prods out or something.

As good as these guys are and I mean this sincerely, we need to see more of them at A&M public events.

Why not have them perform at halftime of a home football game?

Their first public drill used to be after march in with the stands about half full.
