Are TV Networks not allowed to say TAMU or Texas A&M on their shows?

I see Friday Night Lights on NBC, and a player on the team said he wanted to play for Texas and Mack Brown..
A female character of the show wants to go to Texas Tech..
Yet the head coach played by Kyle Chandler, got a job offer at TMU (TAMU).
Just wondering if it was a coincidence or they just cant say TAMU.

I know its a made-up college. Im asking if they reason they made it similar to TAMU (and in a different city obviously) was to avoid copyright infringment. You know, like the old video games with Manny Darino from the Florida Fish
