.....build an exact though wooden replica of that clock tower in Austin all the way down to the #1 sign on it and burn that. The tower could be built on the same cement foundation each year. The wooden tower would take 1/10th the time, resources, revenue, manpower, etc. The idea of burning desire to beat tu would be the same, the structure would have some engineering credibility and would be supported by the school as construction science and engineering majors can work on it and get credit towards there degree, others can take a newly created construciton elective. This way everyone is happy inlcuding the tree huggers.

I have been to at least 20 bonfires and loved everyone but i don't think that stack of logs is coming back soon.

somehow I dont think burning their building in effigy is going to go over so well......... heck they even got all bent outta shape over a little horse poop.....although I would toss a torch on it!

would have to make it where it burned for a while

How 'bout we build a permanent metal frame, 55' feet high (stacked like BONFIRE)and capable of holding the logs we stuff into it, then set it ablaze. Something similar to the burning man event held each year.

That is what those construction science people are for, but the clean up would only take a day.

I'll drink to that!

how about we build a large wooden badger

To heck with burning it in effigy, why don't you just burn it right there in College Station!

Hornblood, got to admit that was funny. what are you doing here anyway?

That might offend some sips, because of the whole shooting thing.

A permanent metal frame would only be permanent until that first fire is lit. The metal would bend and warp and fail under that type of heat.

Not unless the fire reached a temperature of eleventy-billion degrees.

let's make a replica of the titanic and then sink it in fish pond. then we can all pee in the water and light our hair on fire.

I say build a giant wooden hollow cow as a gift and just park it in thier stadium. Make sure it has peep holes though.

Well Mr. Bean, rebuild it annually. Recycle from year to year. And if you have a suggestion let's hear it, horses a s s.

Sounds like this thing has some legs, send it over to those guys who did the Red, White, and Blue out, they know how to get things done. Lets get this thing built next year complete with the sniper and toy gun.

Gig'em, the burning desire is back. No, my bad, that was the chili i had for lunch. There it is, the burning desire to beat tu is back. No, once again the chili.

We need to burn something on campus that will have a snowballs chance to get approved by university and that equates to the burning desire to beat tu.

The tower burns November 22nd, dark:30.

I'll drink to that!

It only takes 1800 degrees for a steel structure to fail. Thanks for the kind word terata.

Grow up. I was just supplying some structural info. but if you wish, go ahead and build it and it will fall.

You're saying there is NO METAL structure we can erect that will not fail after one use? Okay, then as it slowly twists to the ground (hopefully), we pick the remains, recycle it, and add only necessary components the following year. Will that suit you, Mr. Bean?

Metal structure does not equal bonfire........

That would be like letting frats have there own crews.......just say no!

How about we build stack off-campus and build it from logs cut by students, carried by students, stacked by students and burned. How come no one has thought of that yet, I must be a genius.

Tokyoag...why not just build the tower and then have a giant maroon Godzilla blow fire over it...followed by a huge Mothra flying overhead wearing a yell leader white jumper.

Austx, I am not Japanese just lived in Tokyo when i began posting, hence Tokyoag. Sounded better then DallasAg or SanAntonioAg. I get the Godzilla comment and like it, easier just to throw a torch on it.

I'll drink to that!

I stopped reading all the responses.... but I'm up for burning anything closely related to tu.

The way to have the stack safe is the steel frame idea. But, it should be a 55-foot teepee type frame made of something like 4 pieces of 16" high alloy tubing welded together and vented at the top. This could be filled with water and have water continually pumped in from the bottom at the rate the steam evaporates. This would replace the center pole, would not melt, and all logs would be secured to it. The base would be a permanent fireproof concrete structure that would solve the problem of the ground sinking. All of this is relatively simple "boiler" engineering. (I am a registered professional engineer). Can you imagine the plume of steam adding to the effect!

This would not eliminate the hazards of cuts, falls, etc., but it would all but guarantee that it would never fall again. It would be cleaned up and be a year round structure that would represent the bonfire.

Oh yeah! I think I heard a suggestion like that a few years ago. Seems like a decent idea.

lotoag seems to have the best idea so far. The smoke stack effect would be awsome.

Bonfire was more than a "stack of logs".

Because if somebody representing the Longhorns on the field threw hor$e$h!+ on the Aggie band, y'all wouldn't have been bothered at all, right?

You know I NEVER, EVER go over to the freakin' tu websites. Why would I ever want to? I don't want to socialize with a bunch of brown cows. It's funny, though, that they are over here on our site more than their own.
