Wow, I didn't know that...

Hense the name, Mays Business School. Lowry Mays had an engineering degree from A&M I think. He got his MBA from Harvard Business School. And I think one of his old business partners was Red McCombs....namesake for the t-sip business school.

OOOOOOOps.

I should have done my research first. Sorry.

neal Boortz is class of '67.

quote:
A good collection of Polaroid photos of a member of the admissions staff opened the doors to Texas A&M University, and off I went. I was a worse student at A&M than I was in high school. I finished at A&M in 1967 and came to Atlanta to visit my parents. Dad was working at Lockheed at the time. I liked the place, and I stayed. I've been here ever since.

did anybody watch the conan obrian where triumph was doing a christmas special? his son kept interupting him and during one part (he was obviously making fun of us) he claimed he wanted to go to Texas A&M.

So we have triumph the insult comic dog's son and the whole family as t-shirt fans.

When I look at our list, the thought comes to my mind that there are two types of "famous" alumni--celebrities (i.e. famous athletes, singers, movie stars, etc.) and those who truly made a significant impact on the world.

Is our list filled with a lot of A-list celebrities? Probably not. But when I look at our list, I see folks who significanlty impacted the American economy and life (i.e. health), names like Lowry Mays, Michel Halbouty, Clayton Williams, George P. Mitchell, H.B. Zachry, James B. Nelson (the man responsible for turning Grey Wolf into the world's foremost provider of oil & gas drilling services), Howard Kruse, and Red Duke. Then I see names like Rudder, Teague, Simpson, Fowler, Hughes, and Keathley, guys who played vital roles in ensuring that our great country (and the world, for that matter) remained free from tyranny and oppression.

This is not to slight USC or Texas, I know that plenty of great Americans came from both of those schools. But when I'm talking about my grand University's most prominent former students, I think our list is a damn sight better than one populated by the Matthew McConaugheys, Janis Joplins, and Will Ferrells of the world.

If I'm UNT, I don't think I'd claim Pat Boone. Or Dr. Phil.

Also, Boortz says he "finished" at A&M in 1967, but I don't think he ever graduated. I might be wrong, though.

Well said, WestTxAg06.

Now for the fictional Ag alumni:

Randy Claggett, astronaut in James Michner's Space.

Judy Maxwell, vet school alum, Babs Striesand's character in the 1972 movie What's Up Doc. This is before she became a looney leftist, so it's okay.
